@otherdemon – Thanks. Just trying to download these now.
@tomcat – Thanks. Also trying to download the Köln show. It'll be good to have another from that venue and I hope to be back for another MP show in the future.
@Juergen – Thanks. I'm downloading Wiesbaden (Biddie), Oldenburg (Spacebandit), and Köln. They're coming thorugh at the moment – slowly but surely, which is fine. Good to know even these won't affect my ratio today!
Warm ups for both bands for Roadburn probably. I hope MP will do some more gigs either side of Roadburn.
@ Tomcat. They're playing on the 20th, but no indication of time yet. Still waiting for the schedule. Last year's schedule shows playing times of about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Hopefully they'll be given longer than that.
Just saw it. Woohoo. See you there.
@nicoot – A Trust Us set would be supersweeeeeeet.
My main concern at the moment is that there has been no corroborating announcement on either the MP site or the Roadburn site. I do hope this is a go – now that I've bought by nearly 200 euro ticket.
Just bought my ticket for Roadburn. Hope to see some of you there.
Cool set.
170 minutes. I like the sound of that! ðŸ˜
Aha! Gotcha 😠Thanks
@Johnny – In my experience, the length of festival sets is determined by (a) the organisers and tend to be from 1 to 2 hours depending also on (b) the position on the bill – obviously the bigger acts get longer sets.
@Tomcat – setlist.fm lists a number of MP gigs in 2009.
Any chance of seeing either of you there?
I've never been to Roadburn and know next to nothing of the other bands announced so far (with the sole exception of Earthless). The friends who got me into MP are all going and I trust their opinions. However, I'm much more into the psych experience than the doom/metal so I'm hoping there'll be enough of the former to keep me interested, especially given the price, fare and hotel expenses!
According to setlist.fm, last time they played Roadburn (2009) they played just four tracks:
Triggerman
She Left on the Sun Ship
Plan #1
Riding the Tiger
But that's setlist.fm, and I have no further information – e.g. how long the set was (I'm guessing only an hour?) or if they played a second set.
@TraktorBass – Great question! At the moment I'm firmly on the 'great song' side. But there's many many tracks I like a lot more, and many many more I'd like to see them play before I see that one!
@Great King Rat – Not all of the albums, yet. But I couldn't hold back on Timothy's Monster – had to get it. I haven't got Demon Box yet, though. That's next on my list.
TM is a proper monster – huge, beautiful, ugly, scary, mesmerising. At 98 minutes, I feel it could be improved by shedding a few tracks, but where would you start? You can't! It's all good, just some is much better for my taste – The Wheel, Golden Core, Giftland, Watersound, Feel, Kill Some Day… In the Golden Core vs Wheel debate – today I prefer The Wheel
Where does the album fit compared to all the others? For me that's difficult to say. At the moment, I see this as one of several albums (up to Trust Us) that constitute a certain MP era. Of the ones I have from that era (TM, B, AADAP, TU) Trust Us is the one that really stands out to me as a stone-cold classic. The others all have a few tracks that I don't like so much, but when you're talking about six albums' worth of material in three albums (TM, B, AADAP), that's no surprise – that's just an embarrassment of riches – a brilliant, creative band in full flow.
