Just watched some of it on youtube, seems like they travel light this time; no background projection, no vintage lights, no keyboards. Just 3 great musicians, guitars drums and voices, and er well…lots of pedals and effects. Of course, both Bent & Snah are known to have four arms and three legs…Manmower; such a beautiful melody that hits me right in the soul everytime…the Tower songs: interesting developments and improvs. This is what the band, to me, is about; already sailing a great ship they explore unknown waters every time, and what a privilege it is for the listener to sail along!
Rockbottom sounds to me like a typical MP rocksong, nice cover, guys from
UFO! (I'm not into time, man!)Anyways, a nice rocketship to launch Snah up towards The Infinite. Very much looking forward to Alkmaar, later!
(ThorEgil's link above) Haha, always suspected the Residents Ultimate Box Set to be a desperate
try to get some retirement funding for those two guys, and hope THESE two guys (MP) won't retire in a while… Regarding Expensive Collectible Stuff: it can be a short lived epiphany. The object you so desired becoming just another thing on the shelf. (I know because I'm a Magic The Gathering fanatic).I reckon 25 euro for a MP concert experience which will stay with me forever as a warm and inspiring memory was certainly not too expensive and to me worth a lot more than the world's biggest freezer filled with every box set ever put on the market, to paraphrase: "I'm using more than enough already, thank you"! Nevertheless, happy persuits to the collector, if it's your thing, this is a free world. Enjoy,
Beautiful animation. Drawing style reminds me of Charles Burns, a slightly allarming natural (?) world. The outer space scene with the comet makes me smile, because a while ago I made a private clip for the song made up from photo's of the milky way, the sun, planets etc, seems to fit the song perfectly!
A nice example of how MP's music induces creativity in other media!
Yes, sounds like someone very much in love with the MP experience, like we all are! Lately I've been thinking about what it is that causes the epiphany, the extatic feeling that stays for weeks after. For me that must be the special state of being in the here and now when our 3 main selfs; body mind and feeling are integrated. This music makes you move, charges you up with energy, And it makes you feel (again). And it let's you reflect on our existence in this world. Like Gurdjieff used to teach: when all 3 are integrated one may call oneself a human being. I cherish these experiences which are so sparse in our lives. Let's have some more and share it!
Thank you, Be, a treasure chest if ever I saw one! Those were different times, and at the time I didn't always knew how to appreciate Geb's contributions aside from his drumming, but now in retrospect and listening to these recordings, in fact I kinda miss that ol' banjo, the glockenspiel as well, they had a nice versatile sound in 1998, as much as I love the present incarnation of the band, it makes one realise they were already that great 20 years ago! Thanx for making this accessible! :o
Wow! Alkmaar is like nextdoor to my hometown, feeling blised, blissarred, ehm, a bit extatic. Everybody come to Never er…Nederland and let's space out and rock our socks off!
Totally agree with sunchild here. Don't go nitpicking like this. I apreciate the Motorpsychic journey as a whole, as an ever growing body of work, even the lesser songs are part of their development toward the greatness they convey to the world today. I strongly believe in the freedom of artists, the freedom even to fail. It's very human to not be perfect, I think in fact that is a beautiful thing of being human and artists may show us so we realise.
come on man, are you bored or are you boring?
November 12, 2017 at 21:36 in reply to: Why we can't get enough of that motorpsychedlic stuff… #31677Wow! Netsrak, love how you put this mystical experience of the power of music into words!
Since music is waves permeating substance it is probably capable of even bigger cosmic things, we don't know of yet. What I know for sure and experience peronally since my concert attendance is that I have been charged up and am still aglow with happiness and love to share around. It is almost like a religious experience, although we must not forget Bent&Snah and collaborators are only human, it may well be that on some loud night that they channel holy cosmic power which is bigger than us all and can't be explained, only experienced HALLELUWAH!
Bruhaha, this whole thing reminds me of the theological history of the Netherlands (Holland where I'm from) (…come to Netherland!…), when the original protestant church devided endlessly into smaller sub-churches over minor differences in taste and interpretation of the (MP-)gospel…
Typical believers'behaviour is what we are all displaying here. Thou shalt not ride a bike on sundays as this is considered working on the day of the Lord, neither shalt thou have any audible love cult on mondays! By the way, you can recognize a true member of the MPcult by a Cave Tyrrannis t-shirt worn inside out, and the logo tatooed microscopically small on their forehead!
To me it doesn't matter much which songs they play as long as they play in the magical motorpsycho way. Be it a powerpopsong, shoegazer ballad or spacetripjam, it's their musicianship that always astounds me. If I find one thing annoying at concerts its's the "jukebox mentality" of some fans, shouting out songtitles at artitsts who should be completely free to do whatever they want to do! Rock on, Jeroen
You're probably right, Great King Rat, mine was just a free artistic interpretation. We must beware of them, but they better beware of the Cosmic Rules (instant karma's gonna get ya!) haha!
By the way, talk about linguistic, there used to be lots of word (and title-)puns in sleevenotes etc. of MP albums, another example of the unstopable flow of ideas and creativity of our guys!
Cheers! Jeroen
Or…."Tyrants Beware, the great mothership of Love is coming….(my interpretation and reason to wear this t-shirt proud and aloud). And they call Latin a dead language…
