I talked to the Berlin promoter last week and he said he won't do a gig on this tour because he feels they'll need a longer interval between gigs in order to maintain their critical mass.

Unlikely we'll see more German headlining dates on this run. Powerline typically announces the entire batch at once.

"The Green Manalishi"? OMG! What a bust out! Biggest setlist surprise of the Tomas-era yet. Whish these moments would happen more often.

Dresden 2018 gave us a great show played on a very high level throughout. Motorpsycho and Reine Fiske are a well oiled unit. Together they can give the material new twists, explore little playful pockets of improvisation at every turn and generally give each song the jam treatment. I, too, had the feeling the band peaked in the first third before "Feel". Particularly "Starhammer" is the most pronounced psychedelic highlight of this set. Absolutely amazing how the band can slip into weirdness within the blink of eye, with a snap of Bent's finger and they are way out there. A burning Floydian free form space that built to a blissed out peak graced this amazing version. Other highlights included tenderly executed versions of "S.T.G." and "Pacific Sonata", the latter stood particularly out from other renditions. "Lux Aeterna" is interesting, and indeed all over the place alternating between insane riffing, poppy verses and proggy parts, yet it seemed like a well developped and tight version. Good sound, singing and energy, audience unfortunately not of the quiet variation. All in all, also considering the short lenght, I would give this concert 3.5 on a scale of 1-5. Was good seeing some of you, a real good night out there with Motorpsycho on the road :-)

Motorpsycho perform for the fourth time at Burg Herzberg Festival (previously in 2008, 2011 and 2015), Germany's biggest Hippie festival with a total attendance of ca. 13.000. Directly preceded by the longest lunar eclipse of the century the band takes the stage at 00:45 as a quartet, aided by Reine Fiske on mellotron and guitar (who Bent introduced as Kristoffer at the end of the show to a puzzled facial expression of Reine). Opening with "Bartok" it soon becomes apparent that we can enjoy an excpetionally great sound: Loud enough but no too loud, crystal clear, transparent, well balanced yet with a very dominating bass and all of Reine's contributions very well audible. "Dreamhome" brings us the first playful jammy portion when Reine takes the lead on the jam. A relentless "Ship Of Fools" whips the crowd into a frenzy before a somewhat odd quick segue into "Feel", which certainly came unexpected. "Feel" kills the energy a bit and unfortunately brings out some talkers in the crowd (no sing-along). After "Feel" Bent introduces Thomas and jokes that they don't need him anymore as a drummer because he is such a good mellotron player. "Pacific Sonata" to follow "Feel" felt like an extremely bad choice in building up the set in that moment: A long drawn out ballad for a crowd who is thirsty for power? Reconsidering my initial notion of a flawed sequence when looking at the complete set now I think it actually worked pretty well. They started with a quick power punch of 30 mins, gave us a little breather in the middle, before relentlessly bringing the set home with spaced out hypno rock! "The Wheel" starts from the scratch and they build it up for 17 glorious minutes, probably the highlight of the set, the crowd captivated. "The Tower" features a weird Fripp-ian spacy middle part that could have come straight from the beginning of a "K9"-jam before "Fool's Gold" majestically concludes this rather short appearance. An excellent and enjoyable gig with a few little flashes of exquisite improvisation; "Tower"-era Motorpsycho in a nutshell for a festival crowd.

So apparently no digital / download / streaming release of RWV? I do not collect LPs anymore and I don't have a device to play CDs anymore. Too bad.

Low ticket alert for Burg Herzberg Festival, i.e. sold out soon! A heads up for those who plan to attend.

Busted, major Phish fan right here !!! :D Phish have spoiled me so badly by setting the gold standard for handling a band's live recordings legacy through real time downloads of tours and shows, webcasts, archive releases, sound, quality and then some. Oh to have something like http://www.livephish.com or their own app/streaming service LP+ for MP, what a dream it would be!

The first MP record I purchased was "Timothy's monster". This was in April 1996, after my first show. My record store had the whole discography of MP in stock including "Tussler" on 2×10" and whatnot and as it turned out the owner of the shop was a huge fan. I was being truely overwhelmed by the choices — already back then, ha ha — so he recommended me to snap up the last remaining copy of "Timothy's monster" on 3LP with poster. So I went with this one. I was right in the middle of my "Seattle" period and I didn't really know how to deal with the lofi and indie asthetics of "TM" and I couldn't seem to process the enormous whealth of material as well as the range of styles. I cannot say I really liked it. I liked "Feel" and "Kill Some Day" and gravitated towards "The Wheel" because this was smoker's music. So yeah, I was kinda dissappointed with my first MP record. I became a fan of the band anyway but I had to really work with "TM" to get it. I do believe it took me 3-4 years until I had come to appreciate and LOVE the album as the genuine milestone it is widely being considered.

Stage time 27.07. Burg Herzberg is 00:45, last band on main stage. Damn, that's late…
