Ok, some random thoughts on Ahsol Caravan after picking it up today:
1) The last time I bought a CD (not counting those enclosed with Mojo magazine) may have been in 2008. Do all CD releases look this cheap nowadays, or is this just a low-budget release (like Theo Buhara’s movies)? One sheet booklet, strangely blurry print on thinnnnn paper. It’s almost like a fancy bootleg. Hmm. Now that I think about it, I must say it suits the whole thing.
2) So, is the movie/album title some kind of nod to the psych/proto-krautrock band Xhol Caravan?
3) I guess the throat singing on track 9 is the closest I’ll ever get to my dream of hearing MP jamming with Huun-Huur-Tu. Still pretty fucking far from the real deal, though!
4) I love detours like this.

90 seconds after I posted that, the universe responded with an sms containing the tracking number, haha.
I got a mail 12 days ago that said my record(s) had been shipped. No tracking number, however, so I have no idea of the current whereabouts of the package. I usually receive an sms or a note in my mailbox when it has arrived at my local, uhm, post i butikk (I live in Norway), but no news so far. I rarely buy stuff online anymore and don’t really know how long these things take domestically. Anyone?

Let’s hope for a later edition om double 10”, then.
I’m curious about track 8, the title suggests some unhinged saxophone madness (if you know, you know) …
Haha! Someone must surely have mentioned this on FB, but that guitar intro is shamelessly stolen from Loch Meaninglessness from Yay! Same key and all.
By older stuff, do you by any chance mean from the 90s? Only three 90s shows have been archived so far. I’d love to hear more of those, especially a few of the 95-99 shows, again.
Whoa, 11 new shows today! Thankew!
June 6, 2025 at 11:37 in reply to: A critical reappraisal of Phanerothyme (not that it needs it!) #44604I’d say the instrumental part leans heavily on Light My Fire, while Baard’s keys also sound a lot like Manzarek’s on Riders on the Storm. Me personally, I’m still a big fan of GtC.
I just found and listened through a recording of this over at the Archives. Great stuff, with two nice interview sections. Highlights: 1) Interviewer and big fan Torfinn Borkhus being (possibly) the only person in the room to be fooled by an old inside joke, and 2) the story of Helge/Deathprod’s «potato summer». Never heard that one, and it cracked me up. Would have loved to watch this and the second show. So, were they ever made available for watching? I can’t find them on YouTube anyway.
Indeed it is! No idea about the subject. Tbh, I tend to listen to songs a LOT of times before I really pay any attention to the lyrics. Lots of interesting stuff going on here, though! Not least the lyrics to Neotzar. And what does «E-I-O, Sab, E-O» etc. mean anyway? Is it some kind of occult mantra, merely jibberish or something completely different?
Ok, another association from the Neotzar intro: the creepy synth in the background sounds quite a bit like something from the radio theater version of «Day of the Triffids» (from the 60s, I think). Again, minor (and fun) details. The album overall is soo good, I think it’ll make it to my top 3 MP of the last two decades.
@Johnny_Heartfield: That is indeed a 10 000 per cent more probable source of inspiration, yes. I stand firmly by what I think that bass actually sounds like, though. 😉
The bass riff (and sound) on Lucifer is so un-Bentish! Actually, it immediately made me think of Block Rockin’ Beats by the Chemical Brothers – which is a really odd reference in a MP context. There are so many funny, little details all over this album, I don’t even know where to start! Anyway, I haven’t bought the physical album yet. Who’s responsible for the artwork this time? I really like those masks that also show up in those loops on Spotify.
The band or the dinosaur?
