March 9, 2025 at 09:18 #44027Another review in German.
Betreutes Proggen 13/15March 9, 2025 at 09:44 #44028I also think it’s incredibly good and a real improvement. Especially the section “Kip Satie” (what a touching piece by Snah, I love it very much) to “Neotzar” is exceptional. I would especially like to mention Ingvald’s sensitive and reduced drumming. He never plays himself into the foreground, and shines with small highlights and playing that is perfectly embedded in the music. “Lucifer …” is a pop anthem in endless format. It has qualities that I know more from hypnotic techno, in terms of structure and dramaturgy and it is a real catchy tune, which plays endlessly in my head during the day. And “Comeback” is a big surprise for me. The first time I listened to it, I really didn’t like the song at all and now it’s growing into a real highlight. Here Olafs drumming is really perfectly fitting to the sound and reminds me a lot of his work with “Needlepoint”. It is particularly reminiscent of his drumming in “On the floor”. A really exceptionally great album.
…By the way, did anyone notice the “Stark Trek” beam sound at the beginning and end of “Balthazaar”? Wonderful ;)

March 9, 2025 at 16:08 #44032Yep – Shame, Ingvald cannot play the tour. His drumming will be missed.
Besides I still have mixed feelings with the album. Though I’m quite happy with it, imho it still lacks the kind of juvenile enthusiasm MP used to have in the old days – or the gravitas and majesty of the Gullvag trilogy. I know it is quite unrealistic to expect these from an elderly rock duo with no regular drummer, though ;-). So for the circumstances being we probably get the best possible.
Btw.: The last few seconds of “Neotzar” remind me a lot of that little acoustic tune at the end of Black Sabbath’s “Heaven and Hell” (the song, studio version).March 11, 2025 at 10:41 #44033What a day to wake up to doorbell‘n‘postman! Finally! Stuck ten days at customs. Now it’s time to coffee‘n‘headphones.

March 11, 2025 at 15:55 #44035Yup, it’s a good one. As usual. And therefore expected. What can I say… just happy they still do it on this level, with this panache and realness year after year after year.
Love the production. Warmth, space, and bite where it needs it.

March 13, 2025 at 22:48 #44039YouTube review. I take issue with quite a lot of what he says, and if Kingdom of Oblivion and Ancient Astronauts are examples of a band “floundering”, find me more music by “floundering” bands!
March 18, 2025 at 16:16 #44045Regarding the video, there’s an interview with director Arild Osmundsen in Stavanger Aftenbladet. It also mentions that MP was supposed to make part of the soundtrack for one of his films “Underland”, which sadly was never made because of lead actor Vegar Hoels death, but parts of this music will be in his new movie “Alt skal bort”

I watched this movie earlier today. It had 2 normal MP tracks featured: Stanley and Waiting For The One (as end credits). They also contributed something called Alla Madre Improvisation for one of the more intense scenes in the movie. Post rock-y theme that built up to a lovely climax.
Nice easter egg for the visual clue as wellNice little movie, if a tad overlong (then again my patience/attention span is fucked nowadays)
March 19, 2025 at 11:08 #44046I’ve listened to the album at least 15-20 times now, and I just love it. It hangs together well, it flows well, I like all the tracks (some more than others). Bloody great album!
Someone earlier in the thread suggested there may be an argument for claiming Neotzar as the best epic since Gullible’s Travails. I can’t get on board with that because, for me, NOX is head and shoulders above everything else. Nonetheless, Neotzar is a damned great epic. Kate Bush was the obvious reference people made regarding the opening section, and King Crimson is evoked during the heavy instrumental section. But I was very pleasantly surprised to find myself thinking of early Camel during the faster instrumental section that follows the Crimsonesque blowout.
I’m also currently enjoying the thought that the Three Frightened Monkeys might somehow be related to those X-3 Knuckleheads in Space.
Sometimes the hardest albums to get into are the ones with the biggest long-term payoff; and sometimes the easiest to get into run out of steam after several listens. In this case, I found the album both easy to get into and continuing to pay off with repeated listens. It’s a truly fantastic album.
March 19, 2025 at 20:55 #44047Agree with Punj about the epic/NOX thing. Yeah it’s great. Heavy and playful, sprawling, focused, easily accessible and totally bonkers. The references and influences are all over the place. They even reference themselves. Which is cool. Lightbringer/Überwagner anyone?
March 21, 2025 at 14:45 #44063I completely agree with the Three Frightened Monkeys and X-3 (Knuckleheads in Space).
I had the same idea. Came here and was pleasantly surprise to see someone else had the idea. Curious what other song can fit into this idea.
Anyone have suggestions? Also. Anyone in London? Keen on having a meet up?
At the craft beer place I work.
I’m always playing our favourite band. Of course, only stuff the is pub friendly for the afternoon, so no Grinder lol.

March 24, 2025 at 12:22 #44080I’m just listening to Balthazaar and got me a great big Stranglers flashback – next up on the playlist: Rattus Norvegicus :)
March 24, 2025 at 15:39 #44082Paywalled german interview with Snah https://www.visions.de/features/storys-und-interviews/hans-magnus-ryan-interview-zu-motorpsycho-album/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0fENlUlFxRpCwj5tAewZdsyP6XZC-YllDccuj7EfTN9jctS62_e3ditis_aem_XfKCyDOEsmstsNHtMRw2QQ

March 25, 2025 at 12:14 #44088So has anyone gotten the record via German distribution? It was said to arrive on March 21. but I haven’t heard from my local record store yet and it’s listed as sold out at hhv.
