I also think it’s incredibly good and a real improvement. Especially the section “Kip Satie” (what a touching piece by Snah, I love it very much) to “Neotzar” is exceptional. I would especially like to mention Ingvald’s sensitive and reduced drumming. He never plays himself into the foreground, and shines with small highlights and playing that is perfectly embedded in the music. “Lucifer …” is a pop anthem in endless format. It has qualities that I know more from hypnotic techno, in terms of structure and dramaturgy and it is a real catchy tune, which plays endlessly in my head during the day. And “Comeback” is a big surprise for me. The first time I listened to it, I really didn’t like the song at all and now it’s growing into a real highlight. Here Olafs drumming is really perfectly fitting to the sound and reminds me a lot of his work with “Needlepoint”. It is particularly reminiscent of his drumming in “On the floor”. A really exceptionally great album.

…By the way, did anyone notice the “Stark Trek” beam sound at the beginning and end of “Balthazaar”? Wonderful ;)

Yep – Shame, Ingvald cannot play the tour. His drumming will be missed.
Besides I still have mixed feelings with the album. Though I’m quite happy with it, imho it still lacks the kind of juvenile enthusiasm MP used to have in the old days – or the gravitas and majesty of the Gullvag trilogy. I know it is quite unrealistic to expect these from an elderly rock duo with no regular drummer, though ;-). So for the circumstances being we probably get the best possible.
Btw.: The last few seconds of “Neotzar” remind me a lot of that little acoustic tune at the end of Black Sabbath’s “Heaven and Hell” (the song, studio version).

What a day to wake up to doorbell‘n‘postman! Finally! Stuck ten days at customs. Now it’s time to coffee‘n‘headphones.

Yup, it’s a good one. As usual. And therefore expected. What can I say… just happy they still do it on this level, with this panache and realness year after year after year.

Love the production. Warmth, space, and bite where it needs it.

YouTube review. I take issue with quite a lot of what he says, and if Kingdom of Oblivion and Ancient Astronauts are examples of a band “floundering”, find me more music by “floundering” bands!
