              I was a bit underwhelmed after the first listen, but I guess I was just expecting a Dungen record with Bent singing. But now I dig it! It feels like the first “true” Motorpsycho album in many years, and I have already played it more than AA and KoO combined.

                For me it’s a very quiet album.

                    @ Langbein: “the first “true” Motorpsycho album in many years”
                    Really? I doubt your ability of judgement – feel free to doubt mine ;-)

                    Honestly – I got the impression MP have entered into their old age phase (had that with KOO already): less adventurous, rather maintream production, shaky voices (Bent’s recent trys at tremolo – shudder!). Those simple acoustic guitar tunes worked well in the old days – but I have a mixed feeling with that new effort.

                      I turned at least 20 times.
                      I thought it was a nice change from the tense progressive rock route of the 2010s, and finally an album that I could relax and listen to over and over again.
                      Some people have mentioned the lack of substance, but I think that’s what motivates me to listen to this album even more times.
                      I hope that they will continue to make pop albums other than progressive rock, or albums that I have never heard before, without fear.

                        @Johnny
                        In terms of “feeling” or whatever; yes. It might be easy listening compared to what they’ve been doing lately, but I have grown a bit tired of the heavy prog thing. The last two albums were mediocre. It feels repetitive and more overused than the acoustic stuff, which now feels like a breath of fresh air.

                          @Langbein: You have a point there. They have really stretched the heavy prog formula (somewhere between Yes, Magma and Van der Graaf) far – though I miss something a little more complicated in the new stuff. My ideal would be something in the vein of 577 – good songwriting, melodies and yet some motorpsychedelic trancey elements with unusual time signatures in between.

                            I just think it’s great that we get different things at different times. I want it all!

                                Question aside…
                                Do we know the real chronological order of the last 3 albums? Just curious.

                                  I think it is difficult to be precise, as tracks from two of the albums were not necessarily being made with a particular album in mind, while the other came out of a specific project. Without doing my research on this one, weren’t tracks on Kingdom of Oblivion and Yay! drawn from a period that overlapped with the Gullvåg Trilogy years, with Yay! tracks in particular being more a product of the COVID times? Maybe Ancient Astronauts came last, and, if so, would be a fitting way for Tomas to sign off.

                                  Someone else will give you a better answer, but that is my vague understanding.
