Ahsol Caravan is sending me off in all sorts of directions. I mentioned earlier what I guessed was Edgar Froese‘s Bathtub and Florian Fricke‘s Final Flowering. The Holy Mountain mention might or might not be a nod to Jodorowsky. The poster puts me in mind of Meetings with Remarkable Men; I am doubtful that this is a reference, but I do recall an early scene in the film where there is an interesting singing competition in a remote location to which contestants have travelled for days, and it features drones and throat singing.

With the Fricke / Popol Vuh connection, I also note that the film’s credits list Holger Herzog amd Klaus Lyzski – names that might hint at the territory.

Kailash was nagging at me and then I remembered that it was a film Florian made himself rather than scoring for Werner Herzog. As an experiment, I have tried watching it on mute while listening to Ahsol Caravan. Well, it’s not quite the miraculous match (with minor tweaking) that was so stunning with chien/2001 but, actually, it is working quite well! (I’m trying to convince myself I didn’t waste the last three quarters of an hour.) For anyone else out there who doesn’t have a life, see for yourself! I link to the film below.

What I must add is that no one should miss out on Florian’s own soundtrack – nor indeed on almost anything he did! (In den Gärten Pharaos, the Aguirre soundtrack and the beautiful piano of Spirit of Peace come to mind.)

Ahrsol not my cup of tea. Child of the future – What an album! Only heard this one on youtube, now remastered it’s like a completely new album. One of the best

Ahsol is fantastic! Love this side of Motorpsycho!

Me too! I really hoped they would make an ambient, instrumental album (not in the vein of Begynnelser). I thought it was in there. The quiet parts of Ancient Astronauts made me think they might go for it. Something like the first half of that Roadworks chien (with Lo) in an expanded, recorded form would also be right up my street!

I’m taking it as read that Child of the Future is brilliant. It’s always been one of their best for me, and I’ve been begging for it in CD/digital form for years! I’m really hoping the direction the next album is supposed to be taking will have something of the same flavour.

Ahsol Caravan – nice fun project imho. A tribute to those many obscure and less obscure musicians on the edges of the Motorpsycho cosmos. Don’t forget: This band was named while in London for vinyl record hunting.

A little hint to reindeer antler virtuoso Trygve Seim (on Trust us) here in No. 5? Guess so. And the third eye awakening on the Kailash Journey in good old mystical Crimson tradition is called Prince Rupert ;-)

„Have you got it yet?“ surely refers to Syd Barrett… :)

Today is the first time in ages I’ve actually looked at what music MP have put on Bandcamp.

Maiden Voyage was a surprise to see there, plus a bunch of singles I don’t have.

The only problem is having to edit the track properties so Foobar doesn’t read every track as being performed by “Motorpsycho Official”.

I was reading this awesome interview from 2022 where Bent says something about every album: It’s Psychedelic Baby

                      ‘Child of the Future’
Four days in Chicago with Steve Albini. But no songs. We recorded jams and edited songs out of them when we got home. Ass-backwards, but still surprisingly functional! Mastering job sucks on the vinyl. Must be remastered asap!

Speaking of interview topics, it occurred to me that Psychonaut and the band have been focusing on compiling and releasing all their archives in recent years, and as a fan in the Far East, I’m incredibly grateful and thoroughly enjoying it. Has anyone ever created a database or link collection organizing past interviews by year? I truly long for it.

Ahsol Caravan got me immediately. I listen to more ambient music a lot these days, so this are just magic sounds for me.

to imagine that they might have actually played some of this in patan museum in nepal, makes me sigh deeply.

Ahsol Caravan – love it! I don’t really understand where and when it’s from? I remember last year they were supposed to do a show (Det Siste Værste) with De Utvalgte (Norwegian performing arts company) which was cancelled due to a storm (it was outdoors) and then scrapped since it was a sight specific show, and the location was dismantled. Could this be the music that was planned? I think Ancient Astronauts also had a De Utvalgte connection. And Begynnelser of course, which was the music to De Utvalgtes performance at Trøndelag Teater.

COTF – So nice to hear it again, I have it in the first pressing but honestly I think the sound was pretty bad on that. What a gift to hear it in all its Albini glory. Thank you guys! And although this reminds me how much I miss Hiorthøy as the visual interpreter of MP, I think perhaps this new setup makes the band more loose or something, I dunno, I guess this is what they want. They had a very good run anyways, which the original COTF vinyl was a prime example of, that face, and that expression, mmm just lovely and such visual poetry that accompanied the music :)

And we are spoiled as always!
