August 14, 2010 at 22:57 #16530Thanks for the reports! Wow!
August 14, 2010 at 23:00 #16531Fanfuckingtastic!
August 14, 2010 at 23:04 #16532I’ve been to more Motorpsycho concert than I can count. This concert was a fuckin’ blast! A spirit of unforced playfulness dominated from the beginning. The way they played around with A Shrug and a fistful, for example, was tremendous. And the fumblilng on Feel was a conscious, tongue-in-cheek nod to the album. I remember when they played The Wheel the last time around at Øya, and back then it was pretty cool, but this time they nailed it beyond perfection. I guess those of us who were there to see it were pretty damn lucky!
August 14, 2010 at 23:05 #16533I`ve been a follower of MP since mid the 90ies and been to 30+ gigs. I must admit that tonight was incredible. Seeing Geb on the stage got me quite emotional and that was not to be the last time this night. The set started of quietly with Feel and continued on as noted earlier. TM is such a flawless album, just highlights all the way. I guess the first real highlight was Watersound. During the buildup, around 100 gees flying in v-formations flew into the sunset kind of signaling the great climax about to happen. Giftland was just amazing sending chills down my spine. Then it all started happening. From The Wheel and onwards everything was magic and monumental. Imagine the enomrmous contrast beetween a 20 min huge Wheel and the fragile Sungravy and then Grindstone!!!! Incredible. An then to be topped off with the a monumental and nerve shattering Golden Core. Tears were indeed finding their way down my cheeks. I was almost paralyzed. Hanne Hukkelberg sang the duet with Bent and MY GOD did that sound amazing! The harmony was fantastic. Hair rising from the first note. I cannot recall a more emotional, almost religious, moment when listening to live music. It really got me. One of my friends commented “this must have been like what people felt like witnessing PF live at Pompeii” (commenting the last 30 min of the gig). And i kind of concurr. The live “festival format” in the open really gave the wall of sound build up the perfect setting. And, call it cheezy if you wish, during the extatic moments of The Golde Core, a huge mirror ball was raised behind the band. A multitude og light sources were directed at it (flashing) creating a pretty cool lighting effect. I just wished the TGC riff would go on and on. Finally we get a fantastic MP concert in Norway too . Well, time to go to bed. The MP gig was worth every cent of the festival ticket. I think they must have gained a lot of fans tonight. Sail on Psychonauts!!!

August 14, 2010 at 23:06 #16534Oh yeah: and then I got Geb’s drum stick.
August 14, 2010 at 23:08 #16535So, after two beers, I try to sum up a bit:
Feel: Bents guitar sounded bad, but the crowd sang and felt that it’s so good to feel again… (Bent was a “bit” angry about the guitarsound… but the good mood from the crowd made him smile again)
On my pillow, Leave it like that, Shrug and fisty, Wearing yr smell: Very intense versions with some nice soli/jamparts. Can’t remember being so much into these songs before. Bent asked the crowd to make the “ssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” soundeffect at the beginning of shrug. These songs would alone be worth a release.
ah, and Lars Lien joined them now on stage. He really enjoyed this evening (it looked like he didn’t want to leave the stage at the end
Now it’s time to skate, Watersound, Trapdoor: Now with Geb on stage playing guitar and banjo. Time to Skate was very nice to hear again, Watersound was played in a perfect combination between two acoustic and Snahs electric guitar, Trapdoor was also very good
Kill some day: This was the segue into the psycho-part of the evening. I think from this on Geb played drums and Deathprod joined them on stage (or one song +-)
The Wheel: My personal highlight of the evening. Loud as hell, the build-ups perfect as they can be and (I know I repeat myself) as intense as it can be. Terrific, outstanding, whatever…
Sungravy: The crowd needed more time to get down after the wheel, but I think Bent had to start with Sungravy that they’d make all songs in time (it was at least 22:30). A bit sad that this very beautiful song got a bit lost of all the intensity before.
Grindstone: Would’ve fit well after the wheel and was great to see live. Not that loooong ending, but loud aaaand: intense!
TGC: Perfect ending, as we all know (at least I hope so). A bit sad, that the fireworks-explosions hit the beginning of TGC, but the picture was very cool. And I think I haven’t heard such a never ending build-up as tonight. Sensational.
The crowd was, at least where I stood, very into the songs and in good mood (sure there were few exceptions, but all in all very cool). All in all worth travelling this far…
It was nice to see Geb and Helge and Lars again, but I really think this was a one time-“wonder” and Motorpsycho today is BentKennethSnah (and this is good!). There were sold 135 T-Shirts with the Cover of TM-Rerelease and the date 14. august 2010 on it. This confirms it a bit, but let also hope for a live-release. We all should cross our fingers…
Enough from now. Have to go to bed… and catch my flight tomorrow noon.
Good time and good night.
Wulf.
August 14, 2010 at 23:11 #16536Oh yeah, and the drumstick hit me…

August 15, 2010 at 00:23 #16539One word: goosebumps!
August 15, 2010 at 00:53 #16540Bents bass failed during the end of the wheel, and snah had one broken string so the end was a bit amputated, but they sort of improvised their way around it. That was a little let doen, because that was the best version I have ever heard of the wheel, topping even my favourite Manmower->The Wheel from Øya 06. Still one hell of a performance though.
Also: myself, OtherFool and otherdeamon are in the pic on the Aftenposten article
Edit: why didnt you fuckers contact us?
August 15, 2010 at 01:54 #16541This was one of the most outstanding concerts I have ever been to. In the beginning of the set I was dancing and singing along. However, I was soon lost in The Void. I was no longer listening to the music, I was inside. I was unable to sing, almost unable to keep my eyes open. It was sheer Motorpsychosis (fancy word, huh?). During the light show (thanks Morten!) I swear I felt like being on acid.
Bent´s vocals were incredible, Snah was the guitar God he usually is (great vocals as well btw!), Kenneth was absolutely awesome and the constellation with Geb was fantastic. They managed to keep it together more or less flawless, with some very minor rhythm mix ups. Deathprod and Lars did a great job, the show would not have been possible without them. The mood of the crowd, the sunset, the fireworks. Oh my. I started crying during the golden core, maybe also because of Hanne Hukkelbergs outstanding vocals. You should all check out her solo works, I really enjoy it! On other notes, it was really cool to meet so many Psychonauts out there! I didn´t know TraktorBass at all a month or two back, and we had a great time during all of the festival together. As he said, you guys are really lame! We should have been shearing a beer and talking MP together… But we still managed to gather about 7 people, and we met many more. As a note for the next gig I´m at; I don´t bite!
Anyways, thank you Motorpsycho for being the best, most complete band in the whole wide world (even if Neil is still the greatest artist).
Good night from Tellef
