My english is not so expanded to know if 'flood' is negative here.
Listening sorta second time my head explodes with 'Ratcatcher' maybe is mistitled or swap with 'Hell' OMG.
Gonna love this record.
April 12, 2013 at 17:05 #23880Flood-floored-very,very positive!!!
April 12, 2013 at 17:30 #23881@boomer: the approach of the songs and the black sabbath and led zeppelin reminiscences lead me to that…
April 12, 2013 at 20:44 #23882ratcatcher melody from jazzjam rockefeller 2001?
April 13, 2013 at 06:22 #23883@ ivan: yes, it is based on the sunday trane jazz jam from 2001 as mentioned in some thread here.
@un.chien: oh ok, i understand. because the production and the overall feeling is very different to me. much more clear and subtle.
April 13, 2013 at 10:05 #23884yeah the production is comtpletly different, no doubt about that…
April 13, 2013 at 14:13 #23885first listen:
Not floored (yet) but it's a great album nonetheless. Can't compare it to any of the others. Not to COTF, not to Blissard (as I suspected due to the addition of a 2nd guitar player). A bit Barracuda maybe due to its live character in that quite celebrating manner. Oh since this music is obviously played and recorded live, I deeply respect this grand album only for that. I wonder how many takes they took?
Fave so far must be Barleycorn with its Nursery Cryme/Foxtrot charm and a very motorpsychountypical verse. Snah has become an outstanding singer! And the Peter Criss "Alive!" style drum roll towards Ratcatcher's end is funny and super cool. Like that. Afterglow is beautiful. For Hell I'm a bit sad they omitted the freaky second half of the Dog Parade version.
I'm a bit puzzled about the sound. Since LLM they've become a bit mushy on record. It's all there and audible despite being so dense. But I'd still wish for a bit more clarity, especially in the drums. Trust Us and Blissard sounded super (-b and crispy  ).
April 13, 2013 at 14:23 #23886After some rounds I Have to say, it grew up from a good to a great album for me.
April 13, 2013 at 14:50 #23887A short review in Aftenposten yesterday:
Gitaristenes helaften

I still haven't heard the album myself, but I'm heading for Bergen in a couple of hours, and will probably hear some it live tonight.
April 13, 2013 at 15:04 #23888hm i better take that back about the "mushy sound". i've just listened to it on headphones. i think i need new speakers….
April 14, 2013 at 00:53 #23889E' un grande disco, come sempre…
Great record, like always.
They are MP, fortunately.
No fear, no hatred, no mercy, no compromise.
April 14, 2013 at 06:55 #23890Well, my package from Stickman arrived in the UK yesterday, and a couple of listens in I LOVE this album.
I didn't know what to expect so soon after the big project that the UNICORN must have been. An album of scraps and outtakes, maybe. But EGGPLANT is one of the most consistent offerings for ages.
As for Reine Fiske's contribution. I have been a Dungen fan for a while, have their albums and seen them live several times. Fiske's playing is quite prominent and strident with Dungen, so I feared slightly how he would come across on a MP record. I need not have feared at all, as he sits niceley in the mix and compliments the boys really well.
Motorpsycho, year after year you continue to impress me. Now get your arses over to the UK (please? :MPD: )
April 14, 2013 at 07:33 #23891Grimr, if you have any connections to local booking you may bring them two parties together – UK is a rather difficult one to play for mp as far as I know… Or come in by cheap flight
April 14, 2013 at 08:36 #23892I'm happy with that album, since it's my first "regular" MP album I got, since I consider myself a fan!
Not as "proggy" as the last few releases, it kinda feels that the vocals are totally "on spot" here. They were always strong, but they really shine on the new one. Really looking forward to the Berlin show.
April 14, 2013 at 11:12 #23893@Tomcat – sadly, I have no such connections. Given that MP have played the UK only twice in over 10 years, both times in London (a 400 mile round trip from where I live in Liverpool) and both of which I was lucky to attend, I gathered it's not straightforward for them. They are, unbelievably, little known over here.
Perhaps one day my wife will let me fly out to Europe for a MP gig. I live in hope.
