my copy finally arrived and after 2 spins i have to say i am a little underwhelmed.
it’s not bad, but nothing really catches on me. weird, when they were into pop-music (cake to love cult) i always wished they would do another rock album, but now i am honestly wishing for some nicely composed pop tunes.
August 12, 2009 at 21:03 #13275Aaah come on! The Ozzylot is poppy enough if you ask me! And the 4 tracks after that are great if you ask me. But sadly, the taste is like the ass…it’s divided
August 12, 2009 at 21:41 #13276Surprised by some people judging COTF by only 2-3 listenings. Can’t really remember to have made an opinion of any MP album after so few spins. Mostly every single album has taken me several listenings to get a hold of. Often being sort of disapointed in the beginning, but then….
August 12, 2009 at 21:51 #13277First impressions are also impressions.. ..i myself felt a bit disappointed by some of the tracks, but those bad vibes have disappeared and now i feel the album are one of the most consistent offerings from MP in a long while. I dunno why, but for each spin i get associations to Trust Us. The sound and the tunes makes me think of this album as a “lost disc” from those sessions..
August 12, 2009 at 22:10 #13278ok, after i digitalized COTF i´m now able to listen to it more often. (with my beautiful MP winamp skin ) althoug i still have some cracks and strange clicks in it…
and i must say the album is getting better and better! “waiting game” is still the weakest song for me. i also still don´t like the first part of “whole…” that much BUT the second part is great!!! and i definitely LOVE the piano beginnig/ending of “corn.”
August 12, 2009 at 23:02 #13279Oh dear. It’s unbelivable. I love it.
August 13, 2009 at 00:52 #13280haha, of course my judgement after listening twice is not ultimate, but to me most mp-albums had been love at first sight. there are no real lows, but also no mind-blowing moments where it’s like “what the fuck!!!”.
…to cut it short: i always adored mp for their balanced songwriting (never too much, but always enough)….now it sometimes seems like “either too much or not enough”.

I agree 100%!
I dont like the album after several listens and I guess it’s because I dont dig the new style of singing, which started on BH/BC and got stronger on LLM. And that’s mostly because MP seems like they want to make everything for several voices and my opinion on that is that it 1) kills the hooklines and typical sound of each voice and 2) I miss the “typical” emotional Bent-voice, like he still used to use on songs like “in our tree”, you know that sickly sweet feeling, which always reminded me of young childhood or playground-feelings. As I said, the jamming and instrumental style is alright, but it seems like it’s the main focus and the singing could be described as “added” after the instrumental was clear and that’s kind of bad (I think)
August 13, 2009 at 03:03 #13282Well, based on the media coverage, that just might be the case. That the vocals are added. Cus didn’t it say that they recorded Loose jams and riffs at Albinis place, and then came back home and sat down to structurise the sessions into songs?!
August 13, 2009 at 10:10 #13283Well, they managed to take one of these jams and turn it into one of their poppier songs in years (Ozzylot that is).
After several days of spinning the record I take back my Barracuda comparison. It’s much more in the vein of Trust Us, with some of the LLM-sound.
I also agree that their way of arranging vocals has shifted from one voice to harmony-voicings.
Record is still growing on me. A-side still my favorite.
August 13, 2009 at 17:16 #13284Damn! Riding the tiger really rocks!!
August 13, 2009 at 22:10 #13285I feel alone and just, impatient, too much impatient,my vinyl of child of the future…
If i can hope something about it I hope in a little lucid moments-song blow-up…twenty minuts of real motorpsycho:immediate, dirty & stain,emo-pop,psychedelic,baroque & destroier…i hope in a continuation from that moment on…tell me about please

August 13, 2009 at 23:06 #13286@GBD: Yeah! It so does! One of my faves so far.
I’ve listened to it several times now and I love it! And it’s still growing on me! Ozzylot’s the only one that doesn’t really do it for me so far, but the rest is killer stuff imo! Can’t wait to hear it live, especially riding the tiger, mr victim and the title track. I perfectly see why people compare it to trust us. However, when listening to Kenneth and Bent on mr victim I always think of a secret evil twin of whip that ghost from a parallel universe…
@Nils: I know what you mean concerning Bent’s voice. It’s clearer and stronger in a way, not as fragile and rough as it used to be. But the passion’s still there! I reckon the difference is he’s conveying different kinds of emotions. The whole album sounds very positive to me. Take cotf fx: the way he sings the chorus is heart-lifting and encouraging in a way I’ve hardly known from MP. But I think it’s great!
Cotf on again, and man, what a song! Going straight to my top ten mp songs…
August 14, 2009 at 07:18 #13287Due to a recent severe addiction to Frank Zappa I’ve not gotten around to buying COTF until yesterday. Now it’s waiting for me at the post office. I’ll take it to a friend of mine tomorrow (who has a record player) so we can listen through it. Reading all the comments in this thread has given me great expectations!
August 16, 2009 at 10:06 #13288checking in again, as nosey as i am. still travelling, so i still havent heard it yet. gaaaah. but i just wanted to share that i totally tripped a few days ago while on the bus from yangshuo to guilin (southern china) during sunset while listening to giftland, watersound and the golden core.
ah crap, and they just put on one of jackos “we can make this world a better place” songs in this internet cafe. creeeps. gotta go.
