As I happened to refresh some old memories by watching the 70s series "Battlestar Galactica" this weekend I suddenly was transported into another universe:
In the episode of the burning ship "Galactica under fire" I realized that all the inscriptions on deck were in familiar "Babylon Industrial" typo. Felt at home immediately
September 11, 2018 at 14:11 #33495I never got into the 70s Battlestar Galactica, but the 00s reboot was, in my opinion, one of the best TV series ever made.
September 11, 2018 at 15:11 #3349670s galactica is rather cheap SF thrash – with lots of Defender-like shooting action and a crypto-Mormon plot – a trek through space in search of earth and the lost 13th tribe of humanity. But it's got Babylon industrial!
September 11, 2018 at 17:00 #33497The Babylon Industrial obviously elevates to a different plane
September 12, 2018 at 18:45 #33498I really enjoyed this series (Battlestar Galactica) as I was a little kid in the 80's… I mean how cool was Starbuck please…? 😂 Didn't watched it for a long time…
September 12, 2018 at 19:29 #33499Yay! Starbuck was a great mellotron-player, always smoking a thin cigar on stage with a sparsely dressed babe on the keyboard…Pity the 70's Galactica series was rather ehm…disco. Luckily those vocoder wielding centurions blasted that away.
Been listening to MP's own spacerockopera album the last few days (HeavyMetalFruit) and it's been a rediscovery of something great! The Starhamster in the recent sets got me going for this one again, and this time around (played it to death after it's release) I hear new elements, in pieces like Gullible's Travails and W.B.A.T (can anyone tell me what this stands for?)it now sounds to me like The Tower was already 'being built'! Of course when you keep turning the volume up, at that fantastic outro of the last song you get kind neighbours asking the name of that classical composer and the name of the opus they have been hearing every evening!
September 13, 2018 at 11:43 #33500@ Jero: WBAT stands for: We Built A Tower – you found out yourself
No, seriously – The Tower is definitely HMF's younger brother – both albums fully satisfying from start to end, heavy riffs, space for jams (or jams for space) whithout neglecting the odd progressive detour. While still allowing a little Starbuck fun and drive there's lots of Apollo composition and control.
September 13, 2018 at 14:57 #33501@Johnny_Heartfield: Haha, fantastisk Johnny! Also noticed the triangles and/or pyramids Battlestar & MP have in common (the latter regarding band-formation) and……..anyway, can't wait to hear the NerveShip's next spacetrip!Maybe one day they'll find the place called…"Urf"
September 14, 2018 at 16:58 #33502"…the 70's Galactica series was rather ehm…disco"
Rather the epic & heroic fight against the evil disco droids a.k.a. Zylons. They WERE disco – walking around in their glittering shiny mirror ball tin can uniforms.
There was also a double episode with Patrick McNee as Count Iblis(War with the Gods) that would have better been titled "Angels and Daemon at play"…
