Ok, at last I’ve been getting to listen to the record enough (3 times is the required minimum). And here are my 2 cents:

I actually think that The Ozzylot is the best track on here. Still shows that Bent is able to pen great indie poprock songs. And irresistible vocal harmonies. And the drum pattern is similar to Hyena. Classic!

Riding The Tiger was the track on the Youtube-clip from Roadburn. Cool stuff with some fucked up time signatures. And just enough at 5 minutes (it would’ve been overlong if it was longer) And they fucking sampled one of their one songs (Tristano). But me likes!

Whole Lotta Diana has the end jam which I thought was very familiar. Well guess what: They played it live last year. For those of you who have the Vega Copenhagen bootleg, check out the version of Superstooge. The mid-section has a big portion of the Diana end jam (which I like more than the first part of the song). So a bit ambivalent about this one.

Cornucopia is also very cool, although I like the verses better than the chorus for some reason. Also, Snah’s finest solo on the album midway in the song.

Mr. Victim IS the weakest track just because it doesn’t have anything attractive about it. Decent main bass riff and good vocals from Snah & Bent, other than that, NADA. Thankfully it’s the shortest track on the record.

I was right in my predictions about The Waiting Game being an acoustic Bent livingroom song :D And it fits right into the line of those songs (7th Dream, Feel, Wishing Well, Sailboat Song etc.) Nice melody, cool background effects, the vintage sore Bent vox and a nice buildup just over halfway with some el-guitars and other instruments added. Second best track on the record after the opener.

And I was like others slightly disappointed with the version of Insert Songtitle that is the title track. As mentioned, this was played live in summer festivals and Norwegian tour 2006 with Jacco van Rooij. And the fast live-version they played then was quite superior to the slow sludgey stomper they ended up recording in studio. Still it is a good song, and I can imagine them speeding it up live. But this slow version doesn’t quite do the song justice.

Overall another good album, but not a classic like LLM. Compared to Barracuda, it is way better. This is a way more even album, although Dr Hoffmann’s Bicycle is better than everything on here. And I can’t wait to hear some of these songs live (they have a shitload of potential being experimented upon in concert)

I have been asking around to find out how many copies there has been printed of COTF. Well, … I have now been in contact with Rune at Rune Grammofon, and he told me it

      m

s a great album, and especially side A. But I suspect it

      j

      s to come…

OK… Latest post got screwed up.. I was trying to say that Rune at Rune Grammofon confirmed the album is printed in 5000 ex.

The album is a good album, but I suspect its just a pre-taste of whats to come.

I can´t listen to this Album loud enough. Is it because of production or bad quality of my soundsystem? I don´t know. And not often enough. I´m in my fourth or fifth run right now and still got no feeling for each track but for both sides. A: Kickass B: Hymnic. Gotta give it a few more turns. But each track is growing with every run. But it has to be louder. Damn!

But the songs are huge! Great melodies, awsome rythm-stuff, very cool guitar sounds!

I think it’s your soundsystem. My entire neighborhood is getting to know COTF a little better every day. It can be played very loud. And it should be.

Finally I managed to listen to COTF loud enough und without distraction. It´s sooo good!

It was perhpas the 10th run or something. And this time i suddenly understood, why it was so difficult to get into the songs this time. I always need a few times until i know if i like a mp record or not. But with COTF it was quite different, because i knew i liked the songs but couldn´t really feel them with all the twists and turns and lyrics and stuff. But now i got it.

They invented a new music style! The holy trinity strikes again! I often thought this. MP are able to give Rockmusic a whole new spin. They are not only “standing on the shoulders of giants” but have a very own way to express themselves. But on this record they managed to do this to perfection!

The whole stile is of course 70´s Psychedelic rock. But with all the experience MP has with Pop, Jazz, Noise-rock, metal and 90´s indie-rock it becomes a completely new and very fresh style. When i listen with concentration and very loud every single song every single moment has so much power and emotion and elements of the mentionend styles!

But there we come to the sound: This mixing of styles create a totally different sound, which is on a first listen a bit blurred or even muddy. But i think when you listen close, you can get everything, thats important and thats – first of all – the feeling of the three playing together and create melodies and rythms, moods and inner landscapes that no other band on this planet as for me yet managed to create. (Perhaps Pink Floyd but they happen to be drug-victims, blinded by the light of fame and too good and shiny soul-less production or stubborn old men)

Because there is so much happening with every instrument and the sounds are so unbelievable fat, I have difficulties to follow it when I´m not completely concentrated. The songs lose a lot when listened while doing something else. I think it´s quite hard to explain, but i think this has to do with this “becoming a real band” thing. The guys get totally lost in their own music and the melodies and rythms they create are so complex and heavy, that you have to dig yourself into it, to really appreciate it. And because of that i don´t miss any mellotron or something. I always have the most fun with music, when i listen to it without distraction and imagine how it must feel, when you play it yourself and with Motorpsycho and again their new album it´s the most fun! :MPD:

          Sail on!

            hah funny story here…

The recordplayer i used to rip the album spun the record too fast, and after listening to the review from NRK2 i found that my ripped version plays a semi-tone higher in the registry then the original. And thus the whole album plays abit faster. Perhaps that’s why i found it so god damn rocky!! :)

Anyway gonna tune the songs down, so they match the true speed.

Still love it by the way! Even The Waiting Game is starting to grow on me.

after having given COTF a couple of spins throughout the last week, i have to say this record is crap. I tried real hard, but there is not one single melody or riff touching me – not the slightest bit. Referring to the comparison mentioned before…Barracuda kicks COTF’s ass big time!!!

i’m afraid their next album is going to be their first one since forever which i won’t buy without prior listening.

Please guys, stop jamming and start composing!!!

nearly to 100% undersigning marc’s statement.

cause I only like the waiting game on this album.

yes please, start composing again, and please stop this double vocals.

remembering that snah said some month after the recordings that they have to check

if the songs are good enough to will be released.

I’m afraid, for me they aren’t. this is my personaly opinion.

but maybe – that is another reason to make it as vinyl only.

It is more a fan collectors record than a regulary motorpsycho record.

and that’s the reason why I’m happy that it exist, even I don’t like it.

but, marc, I expect that the next record will be a totaly different to cotf.

so, I guess you can buy it without prior listening.

                I will do it.

So i finally got the record today. I decided to order from Stickman since it continued to delay and delay here in the netherlands… I decided not to read the phorum until i heard the record myself to keep the surprise as big a possible. A good descision. Very nice to open the package, know nothing of about the content and to just sit and enjoy.

I’ve got it spinning for the second time in a row and i must say it is love at first sight (hear). Man, it rocks, i love the vocals and the seventies, kind of Yes feel it contains now and then. Too early for me to give a good descpition, but very promising and a great addition tomy MP collection.

O, and what a bass sound. I love it. Can’t wait for the concerts in november.

After a few more spins this records starts to really grow on me too.

First thought it had weak moments here and there, but those ones start to give me more and more now.

Riding The Tiger is #1 up to now followed by Ozzylot and Mr. Victim, Diana, COTF / Waiting Game and least favourite still Cornucopia. It always reminds me of Triggerman which I never liked too much.

It’s incredible how most MP albums need their time and close listening. That is probably the reason why they are not gettig more famous but that’s a good thing and why I love this band so much. Even though I’d allow them more people to get to know them.

I also have to correct my original review slightly: After calling Mr.Victim the worst track on the album, I have to say that it has grown on me. My initial response to it was that it was messy and all-over-the-place. But after a few more listens it kinda clicked, and now I think that it is a decent track. So the first half of Diana is now the worst part of the record.

I think it’s safe to say that the majority of ppl in here like the album. Got it running for the 26’th time on headset while i write….”and it just got started…” and i freakin’ love it! Now the only song i can’t seem to handle is COTF! Too bad they had to end with that one. But apart from that, it’s a MONSTER!
