Just got the new album "Omens" today. Nice gatefold, azure blue vinyl edition. I'm only halfway into the second song but it's already happened again: A magical sensation of being completely overwhelmed/overdosed by way too many riffs and parts and sounds and loving it.

Awesome band with a great taste in music:April 22, 2020 at 09:07 #37274marcParticipant
Oh, yes! Great live band. All shows were incredibly good, especially the first i attended when they were still a three piece. Just read that they recorded Omens at Black Box Studio…a beautiful place in the french countryside.
They also recently have a new drummer: Geord Edert from the german band Gaffa Ghandi, who happen to release their new album on the very same day via Exile On Mainstream Records (besides Stickman one of the finest german indie labels).April 23, 2020 at 10:47 #37275
I got into them by luck. With a MP order stickman sent me their then new album „Lore“ as freebie single sleeve CD and wow was I impressed. Never seen them live yet. But must. It‘s great all the way through but „Halcyon“ and the 2nd half of „Embers“ are my fave moments.April 24, 2020 at 07:18 #37276ElvinParticipant
You can really hear the Motorpsycho influence in everything from Loe and beyond. Too early too have fully digested Omens, but Lore is still my fave. Where they went from "just-another-stoner-rock-band" to "WOAH THIS IS AMAZING". You need to check them out live as soon as possible, whenever that will be.April 24, 2020 at 08:18 #37277punknotyetParticipant

IMHO, that happened even earlier – on "Dead Roots Stirring" .April 24, 2020 at 19:04 #37278punknotyetParticipant

I honestly don't get how this band is being put in the Doom shelf? After a couple of spins, turned out this is a fucking masterpiece. Totally agree, Embers from approx. the 7 min mark is absolutely out of this world.April 28, 2020 at 12:58 #37280
So I finally got around to listening to Elder's Omens and the Gold & Silver Sessions, and was impressed enough to promptly buy both. After I've immersed myself in these two a little more, I'll start moving through their back catalogue.April 28, 2020 at 15:52 #37281
I was very impressed by Lore but going back to it now after Omens, wow… they made a huuuge step forward. Stylistically surely less so than the step up to Lore but this one here I find so much more mature than Lore. Where that one also offered songs with lots and lots of ideas, it felt somewhat randomly put together, as if you could swap any riff from any song with any of the others and you'd get the same – yet great! – result. For me Reflections Of A Floating World already did that already a bit "better" but on Omens each song stands carved out on its own. My impressions… might change, though.
I also love their Krautrock adventures on Reflections' "Sonntag" and on The Gold & Silver Sessions.
on a sidenote: I really liked Tool a lot up until Lateralus. But I got bored with their newer albums and wondered why. Complex check. Dense check. Intense check. Unique check. So… why? I blame Elder (and that lil' band from Norway). NOT COMPARING. Just sayin'April 28, 2020 at 16:07 #37282Quote:I was very impressed by Lore
In a little exchanage of emails among a regular group of gig-going friends today, one of them said of Lore: "[It] is their weakest more straight forward stuff, heard it all before, if you know what I mean" Meanwhile, another said "I've got 'Lore' but haven't played it for ages – playing it now and it's hitting the spot." I will most certainly get to it soon.April 29, 2020 at 23:56 #37283

I still find it a great album. It's just that they have come quite a way since. The title track is really outstanding. Very motorpsychedelic in its second half. But… "straight forward".. huh what? 8O :lol:April 30, 2020 at 11:43 #37285
@ supernaut – Fair enough. I was just tickled by the different reactions. :lol:May 2, 2020 at 15:24 #37286
Very good album.
I pre-ordered it but the package (sent April 17) is still stuck somewhere between Germany and Belgium.
Looking forward to having that nice brown LP version in hands.
