October 12, 2011 at 17:03 #20359Dig around the charmingly scruffy CD TEEK for new & used vinyl; they have CDs and DVDs, too.
From the effenaar, follow the pedestrians-only shopping street all the way to the end, it'll take you about 10 minutes unless you get sidetracked. At the traffic lights, cross the big street and you're in the Kleine Berg.
Ignoring all the yuppie boutiques and winebars, bear to the right. Ignoring the ongoing profusion of yuppie boutiques and winebars, you'll find the TEEK on your right-hand side. I don't think there's even a sign, it's very low budge…you can't miss it.
I think the Bullitt record/cd store still exists, though it has moved at least twice, maybe even three times. Hmmm, according to their site, they exist…Stratumseind 64. From the effenaar, follow the pedestrians-only shopping street til you see the V&D department store to your left, turn left, go all the way to the end til you see the big cathedral to your right. Cross the square and you're in Stratumseind — can't miss it, it's this endless pedestrians-only street lined with bars & clubs & snackbars, the stench alone will confirm you are there. Keep going til you almost reach the bridge, Bullit should be on your right.
And since you're already at the bridge, go right (I think?) and you'll find the Van Abbe Museum. It's interesting and has a nice cafe, too.
Before you enter the sterile forboding concrete box known as the effenaar, walk a few steps beyond the club's cafe & you'll see the brick remains of the facade of the original club (which itself was a converted factory). The site of many, many genius Motorpsycho shows back in the day!
As for notable statues: don't miss "The Big Lebowski" behind the train station…
Have fun!
October 12, 2011 at 17:32 #20360Any coffee shops in Eindhoven? And what about the Wietpass — is it in effect yet?
October 12, 2011 at 17:40 #20361Good vinyls and only the best of Dutch and English literature/poetry at the mobile bookstore OpenDichtbus – this saturday on de Markt in center Eindhoven.

October 12, 2011 at 20:38 #20364Good point Fillmore – i know there are some quite in the centre, but do foreign Psychonauts have to import their lil "smoking pleasure" to Eindhoven (Holland) already, or are the shops still open? What a paradox that would be after all those years…
October 13, 2011 at 08:01 #20365Good coffeeshops in Eindhoven:
-Writers Cafe (Boekencafe Schrijvers, just a few steps from the effenaar, Dommelstraat 24)
-Bagels & Juice (Kleine Berg 19, stop there before or after your visit to the CD Teek, staff can be very friendly or very bitchy)
-De Verlichting (Emmasingel 22, second floor of the huge city library in the iconic Witte Dame building)
-Cafe T (takeaway stand in the foyer of the train station)
-Bagels & Beans (Jan van Lieshoutstraat 24, just around the corner from the big cathedral)
:MPD:
October 13, 2011 at 08:25 #20366Another question, there's a chance I have to come to effenaar with my moped, are there lockers overthere to put in my gear.
Missus needs the car, trip is a bit to far to do on a bicycle and public transport not an option.
October 13, 2011 at 08:27 #20367Also read some things bout limited vinyl of mp compilation recordings of effenaar concerts, 15€.
October 13, 2011 at 08:41 #20368Yes, compare this thread
October 13, 2011 at 10:09 #20369Vortex, yes, the effenaar has a garderobe aka coat check. Bring a good lock for your moped!
