Yep, and the influence is loads of 70s records that stood the test of time. They are probably not recreating 70s originals intentionally, except for the odd title and musical wink here and there. But Bent has admitted on release of "The Tower" that his listening habits during the winter before – i.e. Magma and Van der Graaf Generator – have certainly found their way into the songwriting and recording somehow.
Wonder what he's been listening during the last months. According to his comments on the new material in the Romanian interview – or was it Belgrad? – it must be something like King Crimson meets the Mothers of Invention in Amon Düül II's kitchen
So it's the other Rockfield studios for the other other fools

Going back from Düsseldorf is exactly the problem. Spending some time in DD before the concert is quite o.k.
I finally decided against the concert for several reasons, one of them being the 2018 setlists that up to now hardly contain any surprises and I don't think any Tower gig this year might reach the heights of last year's Cologne or Leipzig. Considering that and my momentarily scarce monetary resources I decided to go to Finkenbach Festival instead – near my old hometown Heidelberg in August.
My annual Motorpsycho gig will then most likely be Maastricht in september where the gig is free and bus tickets from Cologne available at reasonable prices.
Nevertheless I wish you a brilliant gig and a good time in Düsseldorf. Enjoy yourselves!
There's just 2 flixbus trains every day to Düsseldorf or back during the day – at absolutely stupid times. Regional trains – well, try to get one after the gig – hourlong waiting guaranteed. And not quite cheap.
As I'm getting older, probably lazy and am quite broke this month I promised myself only to attend the gig in case of a lift from Cologne. Would like to – but we'll see…
That 2014 Düsseldorf gig was the best one they played at ZAKK imho. Wasn't there though – I attended the almost equally brilliant Heidelberg gig that year. Caught them at ZAKK in 2002 and 2008.
Still not sure If I'm going – I need a lift from Cologne. Anyone going?

– that wonderful bizarre Bizarre festival '02 gig –
has grown with me from year to year. On first watching the Rockpalast video on TV I was duly disappointed – rather flat Rockpalast sound, lame audience reactions, rather short festival gig, very bizarre set list – not just the selection itself, but also the order of songs played…
After listening to it several times I began to realize what an extraordinary gig that was. Still way to short, but man: Song for A Bro & that Supertristano with JJ Horns! Black to Comm! Shame the audience obviously didn't get it. But hey – what can you expect from a big festival KoЯn audience…
Finally found the time to listen to most of RW V in one go – from the first notes of "Sleepwalking"/"Lacuna Sunrise" to the final consonant "pling" of "Chien d'Espace".
Used my flac download – so no LP side turning for an enduring experience of sheer bliss.
Imho the ultimate recorded MP live experience. Far, far out…
Skipped "Ship" – I think that one is best in its studio version – with all the voices and things going on that are lost in the stage variant. Good as a live experience as well, but as a live recording rather disappointing. My view only, so feel free to disagree.
"Taifun" I reserved for a better occasion due to sheer acoustic exhaustion
My enthusiasm for RW III has regrettably worn off just a little bit over the years – listened to it for quite some time and still love Hogwash and 577. Maybe another intensive listening session in due time?
At Herzberg Festival the music on stage usually plays until 2.30 or 3.00 a.m. They got it a little under control in recent years, but I do remember an Eric Burdon gig there that literally started with the rising sun
Expect a MP festival show in typical length of about 90-100 minutes or even more. And lots of fun anyway.
I compared Zakk to Stollwerck in Cologne which I do prefer. Living a 10 minutes walk away from Stollwerck this is quite natural
The Zakk in Düsseldorf is a legendary Club and quite nice if you get 200 people maximum, but with a crowd of 400-500 at least one third will not get a satisfactory sight and sound – that's the impression I got from my several visits there. I did enjoy a very nice Yo La Tengo gig there 12 years ago, but the MP shows were always too loud and too muddy for the venue and my taste. Same thing with the Gloria Theatre in Cologne. At Stollwerck I had this effect only at the Unicorn gig in 2012 – last two gigs were very clear sounding despite the volume.
I'm somebody who needs room to move at gigs, so I was always very happy at MP's Herzberg festival shows despite much bigger crowds. In the end its up to everyone himself. This year I decided against Zakk but will probably go to the Maastricht festival. Time will show. Enjoy your Zakk gig though!
I can warmly recommend Burg Herzberg Festival – great relaxed atmosphere, nice people, one of the few MP gigs with an audience exceeding 1000 people and yet space for everyone and room to move. And Motorpsycho have always been excellent at Herzberg (3 gigs so far).
If you can afford it go to Düsseldorf for a full warm-up show and then to Herzberg for the following days. Never a letdown.
I'm not sure if I would travel long distance for a Düsseldorf gig alone – the venue is rather small and does not have the best sound at full volume. Being from Cologne I have to say that – but I hope you all enjoy that gig anyway
