If you like the later Elder albums, you probably like Delving. It's a solo effort by Elder's Nick diSalvo with a Krautrock spin. :)

I'll go see Delving this december. My first show since MP in late 2019.

Seen Wire once. They were good!

And it will happen again. Different circumstances, surely, but I'm positive about it. :D

Interesting. I have the same feels about that song like fuzzrules and have never heard it live in person. Not even sure I've ever heard a recording.

I can't think of many other mystery songs right now which aren't b-side oddities. "Proper" songs which are only mysterious because they rarely seen a stage. I guess Evernine and Rad Freq are also contenders. Then BBD and HBM which have only been played on their album's tours. But the Muffin Stomp story does bear something different, can't quite put the finger on it. Maybe only because I find it soooo especially good and wonder why it's left closed in the vaults over the years.

Agree. And speaking of entry points: alongside the press releases came The Waning as "album teaser", which at first glance is a rocker. So minds were set. But this one also goes strange places throughout, more so than Bartok or The Cuckoo or ASFE anyway. Yes, the mind works the way you describe. Once an idea is planted in the head, it's hard to get away from it despite any obvious contradictions. The Cure come to mind. Only 3 of their 15ish albums are truly dark, but they've been and will be considered a depressing goth outfit forever.

Ah yes. Had already forgotten this at the end. Fun watch.

btw while looking for this special moment I zapped through the song front and back and hearing only snippets it stroke me how much the song is changing throughout. Listening to it as a whole it always felt totally organic, not being messy-ish all over the place at all. So his summary about content and variety really is spot on.

Which leads to me to something else. Lots of reviews and reports call this a straight rocking album. Which dazzles me. It's just as varied and adventurous as for example The Tower – or even more so than that peculiar one – which was universally described as quite the proggy piece.

yep, just started it. It's a good one.

also "Death's Door", an indie gem. Combines somewhat Dark Souls and vintage Zeldas. And you play as a crow. Doesn't get better than that.
