Sail on!
Its all rock mythology, which MP is also very aware of (ref their constant references), but maybe not important for everyone or in the bigger picture. But interesting to discuss nonetheless, does it really matter..?
Wise words Kid A👌, and lol bestfriend: Running a McDonalds as a vegetarian, great put!😆 Sums it all up
Very interesting Black-eyedJ, also w regards to Mad Sun, thanx a bunch
Such good news
I agree with Punj, though I always perceived their (90s) comments about work ethics and drugs as a statement against “the music establishmentâ€, the Norwegian alt rock establishment in the 90s being the peculiar decadent party-rock scene in Oslo (the Turbo vs MP dichotomy). IMO they wanted to present themselves as an alternative, in all different ways, which they were (including hard-working and “serious†and as Bent himself recently stated, maybe a bit too self-important). I’m sure they’ve done tons of drugs of various kinds though, way back, just read the lyrics.. and feel the music.. Work-ethics-wise I’m pretty sure they run a tight ship, you can’t have this kind of output without a total commitment and a somewhat clean head. But being drugs-spokesmen, no I don’t think that fits their sensibilities.. way too introverted, private, intense and focused.. better to opt out and let the music speak for itself (again, Seltzer vs Bent). And yes, the 90s were really a different time, esp in Norway.
Wow. Great read. Thanx.
Yes I guess that’s how more sensible people would do it, if you could ever call Hendix sensible;)
He indeed also plays his 6-string this way, you can clearly see it in a lot of videos. This is the first one that came to mind, but there are others:
This is actually a topic I remember thinking a lot about way back when, because on a lot of (at least early) MP songs it sounded like he was “hitting†the strings the opposite way, with the highest pitched string first. As if a normal right handed guitarist would stroke from the bottom up instead of the normal way of up and down. Anyway, the stringing explained it, and it made a lot of the songs sound more weird and unique to me, and not least harder to play.. (I’m a detail-nerd, I confess;)
I think this subject was commented on on another thread, and people had a list of guitarists doing the same. In Bents case it was apparently how he learned to play guitar. I guess there were no lefthand guitars in Snåsa;)
EDIT: The Ballad of Pat & Put comes to mind, though there are also others.. But in Pat & Put you can clearly hear it all through the song, and it gives it a different vibe, at least in my ears..
EDIT EDIT: Also in this gem https://youtu.be/tlXSEx_Vhpk
Wow.
I don’t know, as an intro to Un Chien it works pretty great in my ears, happy they incorporate this stuff on the RWs
Indeed! And THE TOWER!! What a monster riff. And the breaks, almost reminiscent of The Other Fool in some way, though far more ✨cosmic✨ Although I loved the latest record when it came out it’s really opened itself through the latest videos on youtube and RW. It’s def one of their greatest. And topical lyrics, who would have thought they could pull that one off. On par with Trust Us, though comparing is boring! It’s The Tower. Nuff said!
:STG:
Some angel out there also uploaded the concert (from Feel on in) on YouTube 💙 Great video, great sound, great playing (and singing!), great audience, great lighting, everything just so so great.
And omg, this new lineup of MP is just really heartbreakingly good. Must be some new dynamic with Thomas on board. Less muscle, though heavier. Great!
What’s your point? I do own the box sets, but I don’t have a CD-player or a discman (lol) or a cd drive as mentioned. Some of us also pay for streaming as it’s convenient for different platforms. But.. Are you some record industry goon policing this forum for people you suspect don’t own the entire discography? I bet most of us do. Pathetic indeed.
BUMMER. By far the best box so far imo. Never Judge is great, as well as, hm, the rest. Hope it comes back, don’t even have a CD-drive anymore.
