Yup, this is another great MP album in an ever-growing discography.

A couple of minor gripes is that all of the tracks are overlong.

Long intro/outro for The Ladder, the 2 minute interlude could've

been skipped entirely, ML/A's 2 minute outro does work as a cooldown after

the preceding onslaught, while Chariot of The Sun fizzles out a bit

as the Gutan i Skogen theme begins.

As usual fantastic musicianship. Snah's guitarwork throughout is top

notch, Tomas is a drummer beast, while Bent keeps it all together

          with distinct bass-riffs.

I agree that ML/A is the best track on here. Looking forward to hearing

          that one live especially.

What a band! Despite occasional minor flaws.

Postman had the goods for me today. Had one spin, but will need several more.

There's a video on Facebook of The Magpie from this show.

So I guess that one was played as well.

I actually think I'm going to skip these.

Most of the things are already released. The lone possible exception

being Live at Blitz '93 (if it's the complete gig, 4 tracks were released

                      on the Demon Box boxset)

Thanks a lot Bernie for the footage. As usual coming in clutch with

the audio and visual evidence :D

Looked like a unique event in the Swiss (Cheese) Mountain.

@paolinogrande001: I'm wondering the same thing. Especially since a lot

of the Soothe outtakes were released on the Demon Box boxset. But if there's

a lot of extra live material, then it's an easy purchase.

We'll just have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see.

But in all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the boxsets

turn out to be the 5 hour Ringnes concert movie from last year.

EDIT: Mr Stickman himself, Rolf Gustavus said on FB it will be boxsets

of Lobotomizer and Soothe. So I guess that's confirmation good enough.

@clundbe: Hell yeah. That encore with the sublime version of Fugledansen

                              was something else :finger:

They also played the Lake On Fire festival on Saturday.

I saw snippets of The Waning, Cosmoctopus, Hell 1-3, Überpilgrim and The Magpie

on Instagram. So at least those songs were played.

                                  Pre-order started @ Rune Grammofon.

And additional info has turned up on Rune Gram's homepage:

Considering the tight run of albums since the first part of the “Gullvåg Trilogy” in 2017 – three double and a single album in less than four years – the 16 months wait for Ancient Astronauts must feel like an eternity for the fans. And once again we are amazed at the creative forces and consistently high quality at work here.

Much of the music here somehow continue in the manner of the band’s popular long form “N.O.X.” suite from The All Is One (2019) album, including “Mona Lisa/Azrael” and “Chariot Of The Sun – To Phaeton On The Occasion Of Sunrise (Theme From An Imagined Movie)”, the latter clocking in at 22 minutes, being the band´s longest instrumental track to date. Most of Ancient Astronauts was recorded in Amper Tone studio in Oslo during five days in August with old compadre Deathprod at the helm as producer. All four tracks are basically the band playing live in the studio, with the odd keyboards, bits of guitar and the vocals added afterwards. Some of it is in turns pretty frantic and angular or grandiose and hypnotic and is mined from the same sources as the band’s more explorative music from recent years. Meaning there aren’t many choruses to hang on to here, but plenty of mouthwatering music for fans and progheads alike. The album was mixed by Andrew Scheps.
