That's quite amazing. But I guess Stickman has more in stock, so one can just order from them.
Just wanted to bump this to inform that there are only approx sixty – 60 – tickets left for this gig!
Haha, I really love the headline of that review: "Seasick unicorn with a reefer behind its ear."
Actually, one of the better reviews I've read of the Unicorn. Not necessarily because of the grade, but because of what the writer actually wrote.
TAF: The first part of Into The Gyre is quite King Crimson as well. Kinda like the Islands album (and Bent even mention Sailors Tale in the lyrics)
How about the way Into The Mystic ends?
Although I hate these memories so
I'll take them with me when I go
Staring death in the face
Deep into the mystic I gaze
Followed by a really beautiful finale, worthy of a prog-epic.
Gotta love the King Crimson lyrical reference in Into The Gyre, too! And the Starhammer intro re-visited!
You have every right to be disappointed when one of your favorite bands releases an album you think is utter shit. That's quite natural.
But it is a bit contradictory when you feel that they've run out of gas/creativity, and yet you want them to continue with The Golden Core/Vortex Surfer/Un Chien D'espace/insert random MP classic here. If they'd have done the latter, then I would agree with you that they've run out of ideas. And just wanted a money-grab.
The fact that you disagree with their current musical direction is fine by me. This world would be boring as fuck if everyone liked the same bands all of the time.
The reviewer wants this album to become a movie!
Quote:Yeah, AKA the we-dont-want-your-money move.Nah, more like the please-buy-the-physical-format-or-GTFO move
The postman did not have the goods for me today, so I listened through the 3voor12 stream.
Well, I really like this album! But it's not flawless: Some of the interludes are overlong (Doldrums, Flotsam and Sculls In Limbo) and sorta detracts focus imo. And the vocals are extremely weird at times: Probably the first time they've been drenched so much in reverb and other effects, I think. And a bit disappointed that nearly none of the Nidarosdomen/Oslo domkirke stuff made it on here (the B-minor Snah theme, in particular)
But the songs, man oh man! The actual songs and some of the jamming are at an all-time high. The biggest shock of the album was when the band kicked in on Oh, Proteus – A Prayer. There MP sounded almost industrial!
There's no point in listing highlights because all of the songs have something to offer. Like I said earlier, some of the interludes could've been shortened and give place to other riffs/ideas. And there are really no singles on this album (although a song like Mutiny! is kinda catchy on its own). But this is for me yet another counter-reaction against the previous album. Most MP albums are.
And my heart just melted when that sax solo on La Lethe started. Whoever played that sax (three saxplayers appear on here), great job!
It sure requires heavy listening, though. Although I've heard the album in its entirety a few times now, I know I haven't discovered everything yet.
If you live in Trondheim, this is the place to be tonight
Another ugly interview from Oslopuls/Aftenposten
Most interesting part: Bent says that on the tour it'll only be Bent, Snah, Kenneth & Ståle. While in the opera everyone who played on the album will join.
February 9, 2012 at 10:22 in reply to: THE SPOILED UNICORN (you don't wanna know – you don't read!) #21684Actually, I've heard at least one riff/melody that was in Nidarosdomen/Oslo. The riff that starts at approx 6:00 of Into The Mystic did appear in Nidarosdomen and Oslo (quite early on in the gig after opening improvs). It was however slower and in a different key, but it was the same structure. EDIT: It also appears a few times in The Hollow Lands which share lotsa parts with Into The Mystic.
I've only heard CD2 on the 3Voor12 stream though, so can't say anything about CD1.
But it was mentioned that some of the music for Nidarosdomen and Oslo was esspecially written for those performances.
Too bad 3voor12 managed to upload CD2 twice
Oh well, no biggie.
Quote:The other article is an interview with Bent. He is mentioning 30 shows planned for this season, which indicates that there must be more dates poping up later.24 tourdates announced for 2012 so far. So there's a few more in the works. Good news
Quote:I selected postal delivery to my home address in Amsterdam. No extra charges.Ok, that's cool. But then again, the ticket is 500 NOK (approx. €65), so it's only fair you get free postal delivery… But it'll be worth it, I think!
