As soon as somebody creates a pocket record player, i’ll gladly play the record on that. But until then, converting the album to MP3 is the only way to be able to listen to it outside the comfort of my own home. By the way (and not to be mean), i’ve also managed to convert it now. But i won’t share! I’d rather see the rest of you get off your asses, and start using the good old noodle. Cus once again….it’s really not that hard!

@ Un.Chien: Well they don’t here either, but i managed to pull it off anyway. So why can’t you?!

READ: The harshness of my tone only reflects the fact that i respect Bent, Snah and Kap for doing what they’ve done. And frankly i’m having some trouble with understanding why so many of you don’t…

Call around, locate a record player, buy the equipment needed (cables, jacks, whatever) and start ripping. It took me a day, and i’m in the middle of nowhere!

Kafka isn’t exactly a concert scene, where as Sinus is seen as THE place for music in out little town. But oh my god. You just put the nicest fantasy into my head just now. A MP gig at Keiservarden would be nothing short of spectacular!!

@ Un.chien: Well if your record player is busted, then find another one. Shouldn’t be so hard!

Ok so i’ve finished my first proper listen (in stereo i might add – and in headphones). And i think it’s COOL! The 5 first songs kick ass. Tight, rocking and with a nerve to them all. The Kap does one hell of a drummer job, and like mentioned…bent seems to be on speed or something. He really plays his ass off. And then there’s Snah. The Guitar god. Who delivers prime solos and riffs once again. They truly sound like a tight band now.

But as mentioned yesterday, it all falls apart abit in the end. I think both The waiting game and COTF are rather boring songs. So i once again find myself with sort of a anticlimax after those two. If they’d changed the song order abit, and for instance closed with Diana, that would have been a worthy ending. But on the other hand i read that someone has COTF as their favourite song. So i guess it’s ok in the end. It just didn’t do much for me, and i also like the 2006 version much better. Faster, and alot more funky in terms of riffs.

The sound is much better then both LLM and BH/BC if you ask me. Albini did a good job indeed!

Now you can actually hear what they’re singing too :)

                Overall rating 4/5

Now let’s sit back and wait for that Space Opera :)

I would go for Steinberg Wavelab, for both ripping and cutting songs. Much more user friendly (if you are a PC user that is).

My 2 cents regarding your post: i think that the fact that they released COTF only on vinyl (for now – who knows what the future wil bring) is statement enough ;). Becides….if it’s a dream of Bent (or the band) to release a vinyl only album, then i think they deserve to do so, after 20 yars of hard work! What thought that lays behind it all, be it a statement against piracy, a plea to get vinyl back on the market, or simply just realizing a dream, shouldn’t matter. They’ve earned the right to do this! And if ppl really are that eager to listen to the record, i suggest that they stop bitching, and start being creative. Cus it’s not exactly science.

In that case i hope they’ll make it to Sinus, Bodø. They haven’t played here since 2006.

                          That would be killer!

Well like i said in a previous post on the MP3 thread, i JUST HAD MY FIRST LISTEN!! Mind you, it was on a crappy stereo (with a busted output, so i only had one speaker, and an even crappier record player. But although i’ve probably missed half the goodness, i still got the feel of the songs. And i must say there’s alot of good vibes on there. First spin favourites are Diana, Mr.Victim and Cornucopia. And first spin letdowns are COTF and The waiting game, which i found rather boring and frankly abit irritating. After reading all the comments in here, i had higher hopes for that tune.

Gonna get to town tomorrow, and buy the proper eq to get a stereo run through. Then perhaps things will appear different…So no final judgement yet!

Mar: Well sorry to have to dissapoint you (again), but i just sat down by my computer after having my very first spin! Mind you, it was on a shitty stereo, with an even more shitty record player, and only ONE speaker mind you (Just my luck that the old stereo had a busted output!), But I’VE FINALLY HEARD IT!! First thoughts….it’s like a big budget movie that falls apart in the end …i.e i don’t really like the last two songs. But the rest was pretty damn KILLER! So again….i urge you to keep trying!

@ Superstooka: Well hello there mr. ticked vinyl man! :P I really feel for you man! Both of you!

Indeed! Bent is a lyrical genious. I turned on a girlfriend of mine to MP, and she fell in love with Bent based only on his lyrics.

Anyway. Perhaps it could be linked to a decline of passion to some extent. You know….when you were younger, you’d stay up all night before the release of a movie, a cd or a book/magazine, all doped up on the expectations. As for later years, this childish passion takes a backseat for the seriousness of life itself. One simply can’t give that much of oneself anymore (“..you’ve run out of steam…”).

Luckily, the only vinyl release of COTF shows that the majority of us nauts still have that passion :)
