Am I wrong or is there a little bit of "She Left on the Sunship" in the song? Especially from 4:07. Maybe not.
The bassline is kind of similar, apart from that I don’t hear much of it.
And now for my two cents: I know it’s just a single and I have no idea of what the album will be like. And yeah, the single is nice. BUT: I’m already waiting impatiently for whatever will follow the «GullvÃ¥g trilogy». This song is, to me, no surprise in any way, and sonically – if not thematically, lyricwise – could have easily been from any album of the trilogy. Which of course is part of what makes it a trilogy in the first place, along with the themes and the cover art (being no big fan of HÃ¥kon GullvÃ¥g doesn’t help me). The song is fine and I like the shifts and blabla, but … I don’t know, is it the production that bores me a bit? Or that Snah over the last years seems to be happy with playing guitar almost exclusively? I miss his occasional pling-plong on Rhodes, mandolin, fiddle and whatnot. Also, I definitely miss the unpredictability Geb brought to the table. Throwing in a banjo towards the end of Heartattack Mac? Sure, why not? You just made a bunch of oddballs on some instruments we can’t even spell? Cool, let’s work on this this one and this one a bit and use the rest for another 5-track EP.
Oh well, I’m sure The All is One will be good and might even take me by surprise in some way or another, but the single sure didn’t. But that’s ok, now I’ll give Begynnelser a spin and (im)patiently wait for their next musical detour or shift of focus.
Yeah, great track! Supersolid rocker. Really like how they hit the spot between too simple and too complex…and great to hear the bass play a simple rock riff and stick to it
Speaking of refenrences: my first thought on the main riff "Gimme some lovin" by the Blues Brothers ðŸ˜

I will, as always. Come to think of it: to me, just about every single and the majority of the albums MP ever released have been slightly disappointing at first listen since … hmm, Another Ugly EP? :lol:
Well now…..I have to agree with Ratmaus, I feel a bit disapointed about this ditty.
The sound and the singing take me back to the 'pop-trilogy' years, where some great songs, to my ears anyway, were shitted by over-production. But…still expecting The All Is One to be mindblowing in total. Previous time around, when the first track came available through some rock radio station, and it was Psychoczar, I remember I was so elevated and just couldn't stop playing the track, meanwhile sending the link to everybody I know. This time… er…I'll just bide my time, waiting for something Greener, aha!
The Same Old Rock fits well in the Motorpsycho tradional of using meta songs (songs about songs) as singles such as Nerve Tattoo, Victim of Rock and ASFE.
I guess TSOR is on the light side of the album.
Maybe it would make more sense to release this as several albums, two or even three records.
The Crucible with 3 songs was more than enough for some.
Question: in the september post on motorpsycho.no, Memo from Bob Bob speaks about the two different sessions they did, one in France and one at Giske. I thought that those sessions would result in two different albums. The Gullvag album and a double/tripple album with stuff recorded in France.
Since The All Is One contains music recorde alt both recording sessions, what to expect after this? Not the double/tripple album with music recorded in France? Perhaps a net 10"?
@Krist – I was also convinced that the Ocean Sound "Gullvag" album (i.e. N.O.X.) would be released as a standalone album (something like EKFFF or Begynnelser), not as part of a larger, regular album. And then, that the Black Box material would provide the next regular album (probably a double based on what Mr Le Bad had written about those sessions). Presuambly, as you suggest, there's more material from those sessions that will likely be used at a later date.

Like others have stated in this thread, I wasn't especially wowed by the The Same Old Rock, which to me tastes a little bit of eggplant. I like the song, and I like it more, the more I hear it; but if it wasn't Motorpsycho it wouldn't make me stand up and take notice. But this *is* Motorpsycho. So I do. 8O :lol:
I was not overly impressed by TSOR at first as well. Still is'nt I guess. Hoping the album takes me by surpise, and I guess it will.
But suddenly I found my self whist'ling the tune at work. Somehow it has sneaked into my subconscious. Guess it's something in there for me after all.
After many random plays, i second the song being a grower. It's true that the production is pretty "mature". Personaly, i would like it to have a wee bit more grit and traktorbass, but it's a production style they have for a while now and it works really good anyway.
I can't compare it to Psychotzar in its impression as a single (the Crucible's concept is its own thing) , but comparing it to A.S.F.E., i have to say i like this one more. A.S.F.E. is not a bad song, but it always appeared too simplistic, sterile and unnecessarily long. Same Old Rock works much better for me. It doesn't sound forced and everything falls nicely into place. Looking forward!
I'm already more pleased with this song than with 2/3rd of the Crucible, a promising start!
Hoping that the whole N.O.X.-suite will be more experimental than The Crucible title track, which for the most parts sounds way too much like 'traditional prog' for my taste.
