Inspired by the “favorite albums” thread (which, no offence to threadstarter, is just a list of random albums that psychonauts dig) I´d thougt I´d start a similar one, but this time we link the “favorite album” with MP. Be it coversongs, riffs or other motornerdy references.
For example; inside of the gatefold cover of blissard it says “into the void we have to travel” which is a line from Hawkwinds Space is deep of the “doremi fasol latido” album, and on LLM monents we have confusion is kjeks, which is of course is a play on Confusion is Sex by Sonic Youth.
So my dear nerds, lets make a (shopping) list:
Hawkwind – Doremi Fasol Latido
Sonic Youth – Confusion is Sex
August 5, 2009 at 20:34 #13124Sun Ra – Angels and Demons at Play
August 5, 2009 at 21:02 #13125demon box – ken kesey (a collection of experiences, stories, and poetry, not an album, but a reference as i think)
the faster we go the rounder we get – grateful dead (from “anthem of the sun”)
on roadworks 1 part IV of K9 Suite is called “the rounder we go, the faster we get”
and more… (nice thread btw.)
August 5, 2009 at 21:55 #13126captain beefheart – trust us
August 5, 2009 at 22:52 #13127Whip that Ghost = Allman Brothers – Whipping Post
Hey Jane/Hey Jude/Hey Joe etc.
Un Chien d’Espace – Un Chien Andalou
Starmelt/Lovelight – Grateful Dead
Of course numerous references to Hofmann/Leary etc.
References everywhere!
August 6, 2009 at 09:35 #13128Indeed, refrences are everywhere! Too keep the thread from getting too messy lets keep this to musical refrenses, and as said, though maybe I was a bit unclear, add the album of the source to the list.
Hawkwind – Doremi Fasol Latido
Sonic Youth – Confusion is Sex
Sun Ra – Angels and Demons at Play
Grateful dead – Anthem of the Sun
The Almann Brothers Band – S/T
Captain Beefhart – Stricktly Personal
August 6, 2009 at 09:47 #13129The fantastic MC5 album “high time” is essential. Besides the name, un´cien has some elemtens from the song Future/Now
Hawkwind – Doremi Fasol Latido
Sonic Youth – Confusion is Sex
Sun Ra – Angels and Demons at Play
Grateful dead – Anthem of the Sun
The Almann Brothers Band – S/T
Captain Beefhart – Stricktly Personal
MC5 – High time
August 6, 2009 at 10:24 #13130Blue Öyster Cult – Secret Treaties
In the song “ME 262” BÖC are singing about “Heavy Metal Fruits”, referenced by MP on the t-shirts of the LLM-tour
Grand Funk Railroad – Live Album
There is a track called “words of wisdom” on that album, as is on Roadwork I (anybody remember the fiskeboller-discussion in g35?). And other songs MP have covered (into the sun, inside looking out)
August 7, 2009 at 01:46 #13131Found 2 more, maybe they were known?
First one is of course really obvious and probably mentioned before
In the song ‘Coyote’ (Hejira- Joni Mitchell) she sings about powders, pills and passionplays….
Explains also (Miss Mitchell in the ladies room)…. Probably her best album too?
And did anybody ever pay attention to the fact that the first 6 notes from ‘Serpentine’ (flageolets on the git in intro)
come directly from Fripp and Eno’s album ‘Evening Star”, song ‘Evening Star’, or is that just me who’s thinking this?
MP have speeded it up, twice as fast. I already knew they liked King Crimson… So probably I’m right, no?
Probably a few more might slip to mind in the next few days
hopefully while listening to CotF!
I think it will arrive tomorrow morning!
goodnight
August 7, 2009 at 01:55 #13132Nice spin-off!
As being the thread-re-starter I would like to mention that the Favourite Album List is mainly consisting of albums that deliver songs covered by MP, and albums that most likely helpt to develop the sound of Motorpsycho and/or are to be found in the recordcollection of the present and former members of our favourite band.
Influences of MP and not a random list of albums that Psychonauts dig.
There is no difference (in filosofy) between this thread and the Favourite Album List.
There probably are several albums on the list that are disputable but I am not the one to say that a particular album should be excluded etcetera but we can discuss it on the thread. Arguments ahoy!
So the albums mentioned above are, if not already, going to be included on the list.
I forward another one:
The Steve Miller Band – Children Of The Future (1968)
Greetings,
Christiaan
August 7, 2009 at 02:10 #13133Pretty sure that ‘Abendspaziergang’ (on ‘Walkin’ with J’ EP) is based on Kraftwerk’s ‘Morgenspaziergang’.
It’s on their ‘Autobahn’ album….
So now we already have :
The Almann Brothers Band – S/T
Blue Öyster Cult – Secret Treaties
Captain Beefhart – Stricktly Personal
Fripp and Eno – Evening Star
Grand Funk Railroad – Live Album
Grateful dead – Anthem of the Sun
Hawkwind – Doremi Fasol Latido
Joni Mitchell – Heijira
Kraftwerk – Autobahn
MC5 – High time
Sonic Youth – Confusion is Sex
The Steve Miller Band – Children of the Future
Sun Ra – Angels and Demons at Play
…. and still growing! Nice thread indeed
August 7, 2009 at 18:55 #13134The new album has Whole Lotta Diana – AC/DC – Whole Lotta Rosie?

The Allman Brothers Band – S/T
Blue Öyster Cult – Secret Treaties
Captain Beefhart – Stricktly Personal
Fripp and Eno – Evening Star
Grand Funk Railroad – Live Album
Grateful dead – Anthem of the Sun
Hawkwind – Doremi Fasol Latido
Joni Mitchell – Heijira
Kraftwerk – Autobahn
MC5 – High time
Sonic Youth – Confusion is Sex
The Steve Miller Band – Children of the Future
Sun Ra – Angels and Demons at Play
August 7, 2009 at 19:10 #13135here’s another one:
the quote ‘take the wheel of the world and …drive’ printed on the inner sleeve of the wearing yr smell EP is actually a quote from sonic youth’s evol record. the same line is printed on the sonic life page in the booklet, so i guess we can add sonic youth – evol to the line as well.
August 12, 2009 at 09:34 #13136Another reference is the word “Psychobabble”, which they use on their releases. That is probably taken from the song Psychobabble by The Alan Parsons Project.
August 13, 2009 at 22:49 #13137without remembering exactly where and when, I seem to remember the line “free your mind and your ass will follow” somewhere in some live-recs from around 97-98.. this would then be taken from the Funkadelic abum with the same name, released in 1970..
