    BEATLES!

I love them too (who doesn’t?), but only really worship them from ‘Rubber Soul’ onwards.

I think it was a matter of fearlessness and experimentation that made them so prolific and special. There were no rules to break for what they were doing, they were creating a new idiom, so that made them totally free. IMHO.

The spirit of not being willing to repeat yourself and to keep things interesting for the musicians first, is an enormous influence on our friends MP. Again, IMHO.

@TraktorBass: Then Bent got it wrong. No really. It could also be the literal english translation of the name in Norwegian. Check out Ummagumma by The Floyd for another use of the name.

This is just me being pedantic, again. My interpretation of the song is somewhat different, but that will come later.

pedantic note: It’s the rock of Sisyphus (greek mythologic character, who for punishment was obliged to roll a rock up a hill into eternity, since the rock rolled off the mountain again every time he nearly reached the top).

@ fillmore: I know. They will not do a greatest hits-tour just because of the anniversary, if at all. It would just be great to hear that song live (again) though, that’s all I meant. I dreamt that the rumour about another new album due out in October was true and that they would be playing only new material during this tour! That’s the great thing: you never know what those guys are going to do until they do it.

    Completely agreed, Be!

Got my tickets for Haarlem and Deventer, yay!

A dog named Bent? Now he must be/have been a fan to name your dog after a bandmember. I should know, I used to have a cat called Beefheart.

So what made this troll turn off? Maybe his propensity towards Dire Straits and Engelbert Humperdinck came back. Maybe Bent said something nasty to him when he was drunk and being a nuisance at a gig, and now he’s hurt. Maybe he thought that they wrote songs especially about/for him and now it finally clicked that this only happens in his own imagination. I know, he’s just pissed off because his own band sucks so hard and Motorpsycho is so cool.

Whatever it is: don’t bother us, we don’t care. We don’t come to you with our problems now, do we? No, we don’t. So just curl back up under that stone you crawled from under and leave us alone.

edit: I seem to have momentarily lost my sense of humour again, sorry for all the vitriol.

This sounds too good to be true. And what will it be? The concept album they were working on earlier this year? The digital release of “Child of the future”?

A lot of bands can learn something from this. No rest for the 20th anniversary birthday boys: let’s just release two albums in one year! My God, we psychonauts are one lucky bunch.

    That’s more difficult, Krist.

I used to work in a recordstore (now in a bookstore), so my guess might be educated, but still a guess. It depends on where your recordshop ordered CotF. If they have a psychonaut on the staff and some extra time, they could order directly from Stickman. Following my rationale, they should get the records in time for friday. If they ordered from a large supplier (like Bertus, in Holland), then the policy is usually, that the record label makes sure the supplier has it on the release date and then the supplier distributes it further to the shops, which usually means a delay of a few days. With this release-date being on a friday, with a bit of luck it’s there on saturday, but more likely it will be tuesday – as there are rarely deliveries done on mondays (in Holland anyway).

Additionally: it is not the case that every record arrives in the recordshop on time for the release-date or even before; usually this is only the case for million-selling acts, who have an enormous (marketing) staff and their own distribution-network.

Hope this helped and I’m sorry if I disappointed someone.

@ Dr. Phil: You lucky so-and-so!

@ harry & Krist: Past experience learns, that Stickman try to make sure that a new record arrives on the day of release. That means, with a little luck and some help of your friendly postal worker, that you should get it on friday. If not, it’s not Stickman’s fault! BH/BC even came in a day early, and I live in Holland too.

I agree with supernaut here. Although it is in my view a ‘coming of age’-song, I think the more base instincts are played at most here.

What magazine comes between ‘pony queen’ and ‘rain’? If sorted alphabetically, the closest thing is ‘porn(o)’.

On the Hunter S. Thompson reference made by TraktorBass: his last wish was granted and after the cremation, they loaded his ashes into an old cannon he had on his property and shot them over a field. See: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/04/05/entertainment/main685787.shtml
