As long as they don’t play on a beach at Dunajam. We wouldn’t want sand to get into their equipment, like that wonderful new Moog!
Oh & as far as I know, MP are in the habit of recording most of their shows. Mostly it’s for their own reference & not tweaked for sound for public consumption. I haven’t seen stuff like ambient audience mikes, let’s say that. Or maybe I just haven’t been looking…
The guys are ripping it up in Berlin right now!
Greetings,
Thomas
@ tbeest: You nailed it! The footage is so funny. And now I know for sure I didn’t dream it! Thanks for that.
@ Red Mosquito: Oh yeah, must have been my wishful memory! There was a big “<” before both songs and a “?” before the “<“.
I still can’t believe they went into Mountain. Did I really hear them play that? And did they really dance in sync during the riff after the first verse? That was so funny!!!
It just hit me. I saw my concerts for this tour already. DAMN! I want more! Like said in another thread: Please someone with a decent recorder going to some gigs, PLEASE tape this.
Greets,
Thomas
Be prepared for 2,5 hours. Make sure to be there on time.
Enjoy yourself and welcome. Let us know what you think, please!
Greetings,
Thomas
Great show! Absolutely perfect. See also the “MOUNTAIN”-thread.
You always get people talking, moving around to go to the bar, or the toilet, or the smoking room. There are always new people at an MP-gig (edit: AND THANK GOD FOR THAT!), who can’t realize yet how special their concerts are. You cannot blame them for that, we were like that ourselves. At least, that’s what I think.
My first time I saw them (very late by psychonaut standards: May 5 1999 – Tivoli/Utrecht) I missed them coming onstage and was in the back, yakking away. Then they started playing “Kill Some Day” and I really started paying attention. Then came the 45 minutes “Un Chien…” (not the one on Roadwork I, that is from the Tivoli gig of first leg of the Trust Us tour, this being the second) and they just totally floored me. And here I am, at my 25th gig. Also not a lot, by psychonaut standards.
I talked to a few first-timers yesterday and they were all impressed, kind of overwhelmed by what was going on. They all had different takes on what they were seeing and hearing, stuff that more experienced motorpsychodelic wanderers don’t really notice anymore. The funniest part was, I spoke to some older people standing in a far away corner at a table, making merry. They asked me in slight earnest whether this was really Motorpsycho. I said it sure was. Then they started laughing and said they had come to hear Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young! Later on in the gig however, I walked past them again. They had stopped laughing and joking around. The beers in their hands were going tepid as they stood enthralled, silent and listening to “Un Chien…”.

Thomas
You’re welcome!
The band rocked, with an ease of guys comfortable with their surroundings and within their own capabilities. They have a right to be proud of themselves. Again, they’re going from strength to strength.
Akane was in front of the stage before the gig. That’s when she told me Bents comment. I saw her again after the gig (in the smoking room – where else?) and with a big smile she handed me a folded piece of paper. It turned out to be Bents setlist. She gave it to me so sweetly that at first I thought she gave it to me as a present! Luckily I caught myself and gave it back. On the setlist Bent marked as a possible final song (not played): S.T.G.
Everybody who is going to see them in the next few weeks: you’re in for a treat. They are in absolutely lethal form right now.

@ Un.Chien: Oh yeah, that was beautiful, the tension in it was so great! That one and “A shrug…” were certainly big highlights for me!
@ supernaut: I wasn’t even aware they had made a new Taurus, so I couldn’t believe it when I saw it sitting onstage. Thanks for the info!
Greets & only 7.5 hours until the Effenaar!

“The Visitant” is the title of their new single, released on Stickman. The merch guy said it was for the tour only, but if some copies are left after the tour, they will be put up on Stickmans site. “Bonganoid (I.C.U.)” is the B-side of the “X-3” single, released a few months ago by Rune Grammofon. And “C’mon In” is indeed the Demon Box track.
I can only concurr with all above messages. It was a cathartic concert; hard-rocking, moving and awe-inspiring. Snah was a man on fire, Kenneth was groove personified and Bent locked everything in place. Humour, drama and – at least from a musicians’ point of view – a perfect display of musical prowess. We didn’t want them to leave, seldom have I heard such a roar from psychonauts after the encore. I’m sure they wanted to play more, but time and Paradiso’s policies were against them. As Crackpot Idea said in the car on the way back home: “Nah, I’m not going tomorrow. No need to.”

Pity I didn’t see any of you there, I looked out for you all, but of course got carried away by the music and dancing around. Better luck tonight, I hope!
Greetings,
Thomas
The Vondelpark: great idea! I hope I make it on time. The venue opens at 19.00 by the way, so enough time to yak it up there.
Un Chien & Little Lucid Me: see you there, I hope!
Just half an hour of work left. Sitting here – to paraphrase Hans Teeuwen – like a dog with ADHD that is not allowed to leave his spot.
Greets,
Thomas
No idea if I’m gonna make it in time for a pre-beer other than in Paradiso (Weteringschans 6) itself, but close to there are such – admittedly: cliché – places like Hard Rock Café Amsterdam (Max Euweplein 61) and The Bulldog Palace (Leidseplein 15). There are so many places to booze in that area, it might be easiest to pick the ones easily spotted.
Greets,
Thomas
That’s my mind made up for me! Was seriously considering losing sleep and rushing there and back on the same night. Oh well!
Greets,
Thomas
Hey Akane,
Cool! I’ll look out for you. I’m going to Paradiso and Effenaar, so see you there!
Have a safe journey everyone & enjoy yourselves!
Greets,
Thomas
Hey Akane,
Good to hear you’ll be joining the tour AND there is another Magic Bus roaming around! I texted Alex, but I think he’s busy. Please let me know if you all are there, would like to meet up again, if only to say “Hi!” like last time.
Have safe journeys & I hope to hear from you.
Greetings,
Thomas
Guess somebody had €120! It’s gone.

@ supernaut: I think you misread. “Starmelt/Lovelight” and “Stained Glass” were the only ones included from Bremen. I don’t know whether they played “…Stomp” there, but it’s not on this compilation. Christiaan found the source for the recording, but from what I’ve heard that was an exceptional Baard-era concert, and well recorded.
@ Castaway prince: Thanks! See you at the concerts?
@ leucocyte: Oh yeah, now I’m angry. Somebody diagrees with me, grrr! No seriously, I get your point completely. In the beginning I wanted to do a 2cd, but it kind of expanded. Christiaan was very much in favour of the 4cd format and, after having heard the result, I have to agree. I have done many MP-compilations over the years, starting at 45 minutes up to this staggering 300 minutes (72 minutes per cd was our limit here), and this one really flows and says a lot, but definitely not everything. Personally, I miss “Glow”, “In The Family” and “Landslide” (edit: not to mention the covers, which we decided to not use – but I still miss “Young Man Blues” – and some ep-gems like “Pat & Put”) for example. But in the end it was Christiaans baby, I just influenced a bit and did the actual burning. I should mention: the only songs on this compilation I do not own officially (on vinyl or cd or both) are the live songs, and, as discussed in another thread, I do not think Motorpsycho would mind me using those. It is all for private use, as mentioned… or intended use, at least!
Greets,
Thomas
very late edit: Our compilation is long? King Crimson’s “Frame by frame – The essential King Crimson” is four discs (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_by_frame). And how about “Dick’s Picks”, a retrospective of The Grateful Dead? Up to volume 36 & then continued under another name. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grateful_Dead_discography#Dick.27s_Picks). Also: AC/DC’s “Bonfire” 5 disc retrospective (see: http://www.crabsodyinblue.com/acdcbonfire.htm)& Led Zeppelin’s 4cd “Boxed Set” retrospective (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin_Boxed_Set) Surely Motorpsycho is as great and as deserving of a long retrospective as these bands?
