oh yes Argentina vs Holland would be a nice final. I have very faint memories of ’74 (actually only the game east vs west germany and the offical sticker album) but I do remember the ’78 final. All that toiletpaper on the field, Nanninga and then almost the winning goal close to the end but then Kempes. The drama I watched as a little boy with my dad. I don’t know if anything was fishy but so it’s said, and possible…. I was a dutch supporter with my Puma Johan Cruyff soccer shoes. But not really anymore nowadays. But I was happy to see them beat Brasil.
btw Castaway Prince, you really live on such a small island? Permanently?
hellyes, that’s a massive one.
Mir fehlen die englischen Worte hierzu, drum in Deutsch: Gerade weil das 2:2 ein turning point war, macht das deutliche 4:1 den Sieg nicht klarer/verdienter.
With Jogi, Germany really plays much more attractive. Less physical, more tempo. So far Spain has made the strongest impact on me. And then Argentina. Uruguay’s a surprise. They somehow remind me how Germany was before now. I find Brasil and Netherlands quite boring to watch. I’ve been a big orange fan during the eighties but now I’m with Cruyff there. Brasil I liked back then, too with Zico and Socrates but my fascination has long worn off since. But it might be a good fight when they play each other.
All in all, it’s quite the disappointing tournament, though. I’d say quality and high tension were rare feats for neutral watchers. I only remember some drama in the last ten minutes of Italia vs Slovakia. Almost all other games were okayish. Eye candy was Argentina and Spain in their best moments and Germany’s really strong first 20 minutes against England.
Quote:I hope it’ll be an entertaining game. And you got it and beyond. Oh my nerves. What a bizarre game. The “what if…” game can easily be played because up to the 2:0 the english were the weaker team. But then they fought back and after a strong period it was as important to get that 2:2 as it was as devastating not to get it. It broke them. It would have been an intense second half which still could have ended either way. Goals #3 when the english defense stood really bad and especially #4 when Barry didn’t even bother to run were the result of a shattered England. So Germany could play to its strength and looked great doing so. They have an impressive collective as long as there are no obstacles like strong adversaries and referees.
I don’t want to step on german toes here, and there’s not much interest here anyway, but it is quite annoying to read in german medias how Argentina won against Mexico because of the referees.
Hey Supernaut, there’s links you can click on.
I feel very tempted to get me a Stavem bass….
Quote:Argentina? Italia? Ghana? Spain? Switzerland?Still 3 out of 5.
Oh the swiss were baaaaaaaaaaaaad. Probably the lamest team of all.
I hope England wins, haha, but most of all I hope it’ll be an entertaining game. Not this Brasil-Portugal doodoo.
yes, nice. long live the 90ties.
Uh embarrassing. Their fire- and thunderbirds are Stavem guitars… 8O
No toes were harmed in this topic. Bent sure neither has a Mesaboogie nor any “modern” tone, of course. But I’d say the Bass/V-Twin/SVT set up doesn’t even sound especially Mesaboogie or “modern” at all. The combination’s just woahwoah. But yes, it’s damn expensive.
Ashdown amps, I tried one once. Solid state, no? The built-in octaver works very nice.
Yes, GBD, I never heard anything like it. But of course I haven’t heard them all. And to what psychstooge wrote, I must disagree. The V-Twin sure isn’t a vintage pedal but there’s nothing “modern” about it. No Numetal here, thank you. You can set it to whatever you like. From slight overdrive to total frenzy boost, the big plus about it is that it’s never muffled unless you want it by setting it to the most extreme. You can boost and cut the whole EQ range, inlcuding the Mids. It’s clear, transparent, fat and soaring and singing. Stingray -> v-twin -> ampeg svt tube amp -> 8×10 cabinet -> my Traktorbass.
They also both play non-reversed Gibson Fire- und Thunderbirds. Very beautiful.
For traktorbass I’d recommend a tube set up. But you probably won’t get it both cheap and satisfying. Either you get a tube amp you can overdrive or you get a tube pre-amp, like the V-Twin from Mesa Boogie. Common bass distortion pedals cut the low end and the Bigmuff imho muffles the sound too much.
Quote:i doubt that considering that they aim towards releasing it before the Øya Gig.uh oh, my hopes are slightly damped.
(stupid me. too much soccer, my brain’s overloaded)
Listening to the spit incident now. I guess it’s the lalalala guy? But worse and beyond my understanding is people’s urge to yell WWWOOOOAAHHOOOOHOOOO as soon as a band plays totally quietly. Annoying as fuck. @6’04”
But don’t get me wrong, it’s perfectly allright at tense moments like TGC’s 10’33” or at 3’50” in Year Zero. I’m not THAT grumpy. But during delicate build ups, pleeeeeease no.
Archive and 4 CDs and Timmy as title…. so might it be the Oya live version peppered up with old tapes from around 93 and 94?
Absolutely. I find it sad to see the Swiss so defensive. It worked against Spain but it actually helped Chile to win. And for a non-swiss it simply must be unattractive. Though they were forced to play defensive after the red card.
I expect them to go out and PLAY against Honduras. Either going down a-blazin’ or get proudly into the next round. And there they can’t just simply wait for an opening against the likes of Brasil or Portugal or whoever. That’s no way to play a tournament.
Even Greece went quite offensive against Nigeria.
