I ordered the Live in Japan DVD and the Heavy Rocks 2011 and Attention Please albums. I liked the indiepoppy songs from that latter one a lot at the show ("hope"!!). Some friends were not so happy there but I didn't have any idea what Boris are "supposed to be like" so I was open per default. Good for me, I'd say. :D

I think "Feedbacker" is quite the pick for droning stuff, no? That older Heavy Rocks I obviously must have too if it's their TM.

I didn't know Russian Circles before but I was quite disappointed. The song structures were all the same. Starting with some soft drone, then suddenly drumbeat in, guitar tapping, looped into the fx pedal and then quite generic metal riffing all over it. Meh, not my cup. For instrumental music which I guess should come across as "epic" and "adventurous", it was way too generic in terms of melody, chord structures and grooves. Bass way too low, probably three octaves down and distorted, hardly hearable what the heck he was doing down there, yawn, sorry. But the drummer was good. He was fun to watch and listen to, like all these Keith Moonishy drummers are.

Next shows Sebadoh and the mighty mighty Melvins.

seen BORIS for the first time. they were quite amazing. didn't know them before. they played some biker rock riffing, some heavy stuff that reminded me of demon box, some j-pop whacky pop tunes and one epic doom sludge hymn. phew…

so any experts here who can tell me what albums i should look into? they got about a hundred i think…

it'll probably be their classic album of the obscure ones.

                  fine with me :)

Seen the Young Gods last night for the umpteenth time in a very small nice club. What can I say? Do they just get better and better or was it just an extraordinary show? Band in a great fun mood, played for 100min at least.

everytime that bass kicks in towards the song's end the world explodes:

btw the F# chord Alex Lifeson is talking about here:

…is special to Rush nerds because it's used as almost opening chord in their 2007 song "far cry" at 0'13":

as well as opening chord in their prog piece "hemispheres" in 1977:

Now can it be that Snah nicked it from there for that interlude chord in "feedtime" at 1'36"?

                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RlX1j5cp5U

and interestingly enough Rush themselves used it on "far cry" in 2007 in a very similar way as Motorpsycho in "feedtime". Some tricky intro riffing and then opening things up with that chord. Hmmm…

i notice i'm getting too old for depressing music. stuff i listened to in the 90ties i can't bear anymore. is that a good or a bad thing?

as bart simpson said "making teens depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel". :)

I'm not into progrockmetalcrap. Tool is probably the only other band I like next to this one. I enjoy their music because there's a strong 70ties rock vibe to it and they know how to write a tune. So I just got back from Frankfurt, where for the first time ever I've seen them live:

that's the intro movie shown before the first set. there was another one for the 2nd set. in the last years they got more and more into comedy. old rockers having the time of their lives. :)

the proper show, check that backline: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVAgOfQ2b88

edit: why did i post that other clip? boring boring boring doesn't make them any justice. here's a better one:

Oh damn I missed it. It was 14 years ago on may 17th and 18th when my little band opened for them.

this quietness at the gig's beginning feels so weird.
