I didn't notice. I am amazed he his in such good voice. Didn't someone mention a cold a few days ago?
Wow! Both are very good. Best quality so far.
Great! Thanks! Those were the times…
I think Heartattack Mac could have been the ultimate song here.
Any recordings?
Thanks for all the great comments and reviews! It's a pleasure to follow.
I totally get your gripe, Riccardo, with California placed there, although I love the song.
A presumably long and heavy Mountain followed by a groovy, jammed out Dream Home, and then a magic Manmower setting the perfect mood for more dark and doomy.
Can you describe Go to California? Short/long? Jams? Solos? Rocking/jazzy/laidback? Any thing new to it?
@ fillmore: Thanks, interesting. I used Spacebandit's estimate, he writes 500-600 in his notes to the recording.
@ BronYAur: Did you see Geb play?
An atmospheric recording has been up on DIME for a while. Thanks Spacebandit!
Great, great stuff going on. You can hear how this leads up to Bremen the next day.
Highlights almost too many to mention. Seven songs from The Tower performed with ever growing vitality, interspersed with a handful of lengthy renditions of beautiful older songs, served to this – for a Saturday night – amazingly quiet audience of 600.
Manmower is yet again growing in a new direction. Cornu-Cali-Copia contains a piano solo that sends my thoughts back to the Bård days. In Alchemyst they suddenly take it down to give way for a flügelhorn solo. The longest Lacuna/Sunrise recorded so far takes the journey deep into jazz land, and is chained together with a, so far, one-off performance on this tour of the laidback Entropy from 'Behind The Sun'.
To top it off after a mighty Ship of Fools they resurrect The Wheel in painstaking detail, and also add to it. The tour debut in Hamburg the night before was a good run-through. Here they nail it.
@ Punj Lizard: Thank you. My mistake.
@ Shakti: I kindly disagree about Lacuna Sunrise having a lame jam. It is on of the songs that differs the most from night to night. So far we have documented versions of everything from 10 to 16 minutes, and the jams and the whole structure of this piece varies greatly from night to night, depending on who takes the lead, and where it leads them.
Very intense version of Heartattack Mac. Overpowered in the loud parts, but the hauntingly beautiful ending is well worth the effort.
Error 404?
Seems they just don't play it every night for the time being. Instead A.S.F.E. seems to have moved in the opposite direction, from sporadic to regular.
Intrepid was last played four concerts ago in Frankfurt, four concerts before that, in Sint-Niklaas, and the day before in Amsterdam, while it was rested in Bremen and London. Before that it was a regular.
I agree that it worked very well in Larvik (judging by recording). Beautiful and far out, and almost 13 minutes long, while most versions have been around 11. Also in Copenhagen was it a highlight, with a great space-out.
Ironic that the song has not been part of what has been considered the most psychedelic concerts of the tour so far, like for instance Bremen, Brussels and Biel.
Wow!
I am pretty sure mefisto has seen more.
160. First one was Oslo, Sentrum Scene March 1994.
Bremen II! Setlist looks just as epic and psychedelic, even if half of the songs changed compared to Bremen. Very interesting to know that Kristoffer compiled it. Must be the first, or one of the first where The Tower was not played. Also Dream Home gets a rare rest, and Intrepid Explorer has been missing in several setlists lately.
Looking forward to the recording, Vortex 155
Now, can we get a concert with both Chien, Tower, Intrepid, Ship of Fools, Sonata, HBM, Taifun, Wheel, Golden Core and Vortex Surfer on this tour? Plus Lacuna and H-mac? That would be pretty trippy.
