"Coventry Boy"! Nice choice. First time in six years, and always a rarity, really. To quote Yngwie, more Trust Us is more!
Only one song from The Tower must be a first in a while, and "Mountain" > "Psychotzar" is some hevveh dooteh. :smoke:
Oh, and chill out to Hellhammer? Brilliant!
Day off today, and I still think Hamburg and Oslo have the two best setlists so far (not often I can say that about Oslo these days), but "Master Builder" has been a very promising addition for us who like the heavy psych stuff. Could it be a new "Tristano" of sorts?
@otherdemon – heard Reine fine in the middle upstairs. Would agree that "577" was a/maybe the highlight, and that you can never have enough Trust Us. Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the show as much as me.
Holy fuk! Can't thank you enough for the momentous effort with the site, Bernie. And thanks so much to metallicanor and the rest of the tapers too. I know the site is called Motorpsychodelic Clips, but it might as well have been called Giftland. Much love to you all.
@metallican: Beautiful. Thank you so much <3
YES! "Hogwash" back – and a pretty interestingly balanced set indeed.
@fillmore, yes – that's quite special – reminiscent of a certain SF-band, hehe. And speaking of noise-outs, my favourite moment in the Sinus-recording is probably from 9:15-11:00 in "The Crucible", which is just mind-numbingly heavy/industrial. Can't wait to dive into that when they bring it to Oslo! :MPD:
Wow! So no "Tristano", "Hogwash" or "Black To Comm" on night two (have been hoping since UFFA that they’d unleash that on us throughout this tour), but rather the complete opposite with an acoustic set. While I normally would be extremely disappointed with that, what an awesome selection! Opening with "Nature's Way"?! YES! Love that song. Never thought they’d perform it live. Fantastic to see "Watersound" and "Starmelt/Lovelight" there too, and "Bedroom Eyes" is my favourite from Phanerothyme. I believe that was played along with "Stardust" at Byscenen in Trondheim in 2017 too, but it wasn’t surrounded by pure gold like this.
Hope to hear more reports – or even better a recording from this one.
Stellar post, @The Other Anders! One I will come back to many times. Thanks and hats off to you!
Hey, Anders! Nothing makes me happier than hearing that people enjoy the concerts, and the excitement of "seasoned" psychonauts like yourself is always music to my ears. You are obviously right in that the setlist doesn’t say much (anything) about the jams. I’ve made that same point myself many times, and have had my mind blown live by tons of tracks I don’t particularly love the studio version of. But still – there are a few songs from ’00-’02 that are just really hard for me to get into, such as "Walkin’ With J", "Go To California", "B.S.", "What If…", "My Best Friend", "Neverland"… Of course I can enjoy them in a live setting, but it would have to go pretty "far from source".
I heard an interview with someone in The Doors (it may have been Robbie Krieger), who said that the studio albums were merely "maps of what we do live", and that same point can definitely be made about MP if you wish. What’s especially great is that it is also true for the "pop-era". So yes, we’re pretty much in agreement, although I’ll keep wishing and hoping for certain tracks before others, and some things just don't look tempting on paper.
Re: Trust Us, yes "Superstooge", VS and "Hey, Jane" still turn up every now and then. I suppose my post was mainly about the more rarely played tracks. The thought just struck me when I heard the interview about the new double-guitar/bass (not having to change between guitar/bass for Rad. Freq. ie.).
So the first stretch of shows begins tomorrow. Looking forward to the concert reports. Especially interested in the two nights at Hulen. Love it when there’s a double-event so early in the tour. Always exciting for setlist-freaks like me.
Ouch, that's a terrible setlist imo, but good to hear that it was more than a decent show regardless. Looking forward to hearing the new songs live in May. Hope I don't have to endure GTC, but "Überwagner" is quite welcome.
Wishful speculation: Will this be the tour when they finally get around to revisit some more Trust Us-material? I'm desperately hoping for "Psychonaut" above all, but some other rarely played tracks such as "Radiance Freq." and "Ozone" might be easier to pull of with Bent's new guitar/bass double axe. LOVED hearing "Taifun" on the Tower-tour, so at least they haven't forgotten the album's existence. "Mantrick Muffin Stomp" was played once in 2017 iirc.
Bent on the new album: "A continuation of the last two records (The Tower/The Crucible) to a degree, but even more 'edgy' and disharmonic with less choruses."
"I wish I had more hands so I could give 'Neverland' four thumbs down." – Rick James
