No offense, but I hate Geddy Lee & his shitty falsetto vocals! For me they have ruined quite a lot of the musical greatness that Rush have… Same thing with Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden: Great band, singer fucks it all up.
I'd take a slightly sour Bent/Snah combo every day over Geddy Lee :MPD:
Really interesting article about the Storløkken collaboration so far.
Mountain & Taifun? Slightly jealous, to say the least
Damnit, I just knew they were gonna do Mountain with Ståle. Ah well, hope you guys had a good time yesterday!
An ecstatic review here
Thank you so much for uploading your recording TAF! Much appreciated
Roughly translated:
"Pete Townsend once said: I'm proud to call myself an artist, any cunt can be an entertainer. The Norwegian language doesn't really separate one from the other. If you sing a couple of lines on TV2 (one of the Norwegian national TV channels), then you're considered an artist. It's an extremely arrogant thing to say, but also inspiring. You have to be slightly elitist to push enough for something to happen. You can't safe your way through this; you only get one chance."
I was extremely happy to read the end of the first article. They're writing new material; ranging from very concentrated things to the songs they did in Nidarosdomen and Oslo Domkirke. They feel that they have 2-3 more records worth of great material.
Good news. The songs from Nidaros and Oslo deserves release
GBD: The thing is that their limited vocals abilities becomes very apparent in this setting. Sure, sometimes their slightly sour, "off" vocals work to their advantage in creating a human & fragile charm. But when playing technically proficient progressive rock, their vocal weaknesses sticks out like sore thumbs.
However, everything isn't all bleak, vocal-wise. Snah's lead vocals on Oh, Proteus – A Prayer for example really gets me. Especially in the heavier section, where he tries an aggressive, almost Nick Cave-ish approach that really suits the song well. Don't really mind the occasionally missed notes here.
Quote:Vocals is kind of important in an operaYeah. But they're not that important in the context of Motorpsycho.
Actually, at Sentrum Scene the vocals didn't sound as bad as the Byscenen bootleg. But I have a suspicion that the loudness of the gigs sorta hide the vocals in the wall of sound, making it more tolerable.
That said, their vocal weaknesses is too much on display nowadays… And to be honest, I'm not sure if they give a shit.
I should start copyrighting my opinions
Really looking forward to your recording, TAF!
Yeah, they handed out a "programme" for free which includes:
– a tiny synopsis story of TDDU, written by Bent.
– a short band biography
– individual biographies with hilarious pictures (hint: fake Trønder moustaches galore  )
I'll see if I can upload a scan or two later…
I took a quick look at the merch stand at Sentrum Scene.
They sold most of the Kapstad releases on vinyl. And there were Unicorn-themed T-shirts/hoodies/sweaters as well.
The coolest one imo was a grey T-shirt with the drawing of the guys in the lifeboat.
Unfortunately I don't have any pics…
Quote:otherdemon: You sure there wasn't a bandcrisis around Blissard? I distinctly remember reading an interview with Bent from around that time, in which he lamented the fact, that he was the only one writing stuff for the band and Snah & Geb weren't really pulling their weight. Could be wrong though. Not that I know of. But I didn't read every single 1995/96 interview with the band either. And the ones I've read only focused on the fact that the studio session in Stockholm went to shit, and that they had to remix/re-record a huge part of it in Oslo.
Quote:Fool's Gold a crap song??? Are you serious? One of many highlights on a brilliant album, I think.Of course taste can't be discussed, though
Well, it's crappily recorded. Even more crappily recorded than the Bent livingroom ones. And it just feels like a total anti-climax after Sinful, Windborne—> Manmower.
And Nathan Daniels isn't even a Motorpsycho song, just a Deathprod experiment.
So even though I like Blissard a lot, I think they blew it just before the finishing line.
Coolest picture ever:

Quote:Blissard then has too much repetition on it. Half of the songs are in the same tempo and Fool's Gold and Nathan, as pretty as they are, feel like filler material for an EP. They had a couple of amazing songs there but not quite enough for a full length record. Wasn't there a deep band crisis anyway during the time of this album?Nope, there wasn't a band crisis during the time of this album. BUT they fucked up badly when they recorded it in the ABBA studio in Stockholm (some of the songs were recorded OUT OF TUNE!) so they had to remix/re-record huge chunks of Blissard in Oslo (plus they recorded Manmower in its entirety there)
I really like Blissard, but the two crap songs at the end should've been replaced with stuff like Flick Of The Wrist and Mad Sun, for example (which they recorded around that time)
I was actually surprised that I was sorta in sync with the majority of the lists. Except the worst album list: 4 votes for Phanerothyme??? I was close to having it on my best album list
And why didn't that awful turd 8 Soothing Songs For Rut win that poll by a landslide? 'Uninspired' isn't even enough to describe it…Ah well, polls are great fun  And thank you to BronYAur for doing a good job putting the poll together!
