Am i the only one who really likes Neverland? And Composite Head? Looks like it.
This is a good topic, motivates me to grab some of the old records and play them. I just finished listening to It’s A Love Cult & the Serpentine EP, and i must say i loved it. Strange, when it came out i loved it a lot, then the records afterwards came and i didn’t play this one a lot, and now i sorta re-discovered it.
And yeah, BH/BC rocks. Fantastic record, i think that one will be the play of tomorrow.
Fantastic news. I hope they play some shows in the Netherlands again, preferably Groningen. I checked the sites of some venues they did shows before, but nothin yet…let’s wait. Good thing they don’t go for a festival tour, i prefer to see them at a club show. Always hungry for more Motorpsycho.
little edit: i hadn’t checked the link yet, but it is kinda funny that the site itself says 20th aniversary tour. What should we expect of that? Something special? Or is it something like ‘An Evening With Lou Reed’ which was just a two hour show (a great one but ok)
It’s all a matter of taste off course. I’ve just finished listening to Blissard and i am stunned, i’v listened it a zillion times and it still grabs my full attention.
Hmm, difficult one. I don’t really think MP has overrated albums. They have got weaker albums, but everybody seems to agree on which are the weaker ones (Lobotimizer, Love Cult, Barracuda), although i must say i like both Barracuda and It’s A Love Cult, with brilliant moments. But, not their best in my opinion. I think the main problem with It’s A Love Cult is that it doesn’t sound like an album, more like a collection of songs. No good flow.
I totally disagree with you on BH/BC. Better than Trust Us? Or Angels and Demons at Play? I don’t know, but it is one hell of an album. Very good, i love it. Songs like Kill Devil Hills, The Ace, Hyena, Triggerman, wow. I don’t agree on the drumming too. It is a litle weird now and then, but it fits perfectly and i think Bent did an excellent job.
well, just face it. There is going to be a vinyl only release and that seems to be it wether one likes it or not. I happen to like it, and am looking forward to the release very much. But i have no problem with the discussion, it’s very amusing. :MPD:
GBD, i totally agree with you. Nothing really more to add. I am really really really looking forward to Child of the Future, and can’t wait to see the so ‘spectacular artwork’. I am very curious about the sound too, love quite some Albini recordings. I don’t really know what to expect.
Basically i am a Motorpsycho freak, a Shellac and Albini fan, and a vinyl lover. So this must be great. I trust ’em.
And it gets more and more amusing. Stalemate, you sound like some lp once stole your girlfriend (or boyfriend, dunno if yr a boy or a girl).
Every now and then when i read this discussion, i look to my left and see my lp collection and it makes me smile every time. I do feel kinda sorry for the people who don’t own a record player and want CotF on cd, really. I understand it’s disapointing for some of you. But don’t have a heartattack over this.
Quote:All the previous releases has been available in vinylnot true, Another Ugly Ep and the Mountain Ep are cd only. I know the boys had a different record label then, but ok. O, and the Bonny Lee/Hyena cd? Would have been nice if they had included a 7″ of it with BH/BC. But you didn’t hear me complain about that (ok, perhaps i did, i don’t remember….)
This is becoming a very interesting discussion. It kind of surprises me that there seem to be quite some peeps here who are upset, angry, disappointed and/or simply pissed. Is it that big of a deal? I am fortunate in this matter. I own a pretty decent record player and play and buy almost only vinyl and have done so for many years.
This feels to me like a little present for keeping on buying vinyl and loving it, even in times where most of the people said vinyl is dead. Well it isn’t. More and more people are buying vinyl, hence even the Media Markt (yeah i’m dutch) sells vinyl these days. So, on a personal level, this is just fine with me. They seem to make somethinh special out of it, considering the “spectacular artwork” and all.
I don’t know why MP put this one out only on vinyl, and i am not that good on speculating. My guess is that it has something to do with it being special, with special artwork, and Steve Albini recording. Albini records only analog, so it might has someting to do with that, true analog. I don’t know. Or they just don’t want people to listen in their car to the new record. I love the experience of putting a new vinyl record on my turntable, hedphones on, eyes closed and just sail on. If that is what MP intended with this one, than i am up for it.
(wow, this turned out as quite a long post, and i haven’t even made a real point here…)
@ stalemate: why not just buy the record, have a listening premiere with your brother (always good for family bonding), rip the record for yourself at your brothers house, and give the vinyl cover a nice place so you can look at it and wish you owned a turntable yourself?
oww, and then there is this phrase from the press release:
So if you are in the unlikely position of not owning a record player, this is the time to do something about it.
Sounds to me like they (MP, Stickman and/or Rune) thinks everybody should just go and get a record player,
Quote:so it’s respectless if i want to listen to the album while i can’t/don’t want to spend money on a record player? No it’s not. I think it is respectless if one rips the album and spread it on the internet. That’s like giving their hard work away for free. But again, i don’t want to offend anyone, and i think it will be spread digitally anyway. I will enjoy the vinyl, and the “spectacular artwork”.
Why not just buy the vinyl, enjoy the artwork and rip it for yourself? There must be someone with a record player around somewhere? I know quite a lot of people with a record player myself.
already workin’ on that. Had Trust Us playing quite a lot the last few days. :MPD:
sounds great to me, guess some patience is the best option then.
You’re not a big wussy for not wanting to share. I think it would be a big fuck you to the band if this record would be shared digitally. Why do yoy think there is no download option? Just buy it, and make it digital for your own use if you want that, but don’t go sharing their music like that.
So people, please don’t share. Respect the band and just don’t do it. I don’t want to offend anyone, absolutely not. I just think that it would be respectless to the band to share their work without the band making some money out of it.
ha, great post. I always thought Supersooge was a reference to this song. My favorite Stooges album. Great stuff. This shows how you can use virtually the same riff and make a totally different song out of it. In no means plageriatism this, just using a great reference.
Mark, please just go away. Start a blog or something, but really, just go. Thanks.
