@ stalemate: My mother uses this phrase a lot, never knew the origin of it, not even that it was attributed to or had something to do with Sartre!

Thanks for clearing that up, always good to learn new stuff.

    @mark:

Thank you for your eloquent response. Although my views differ from yours, I can see where’re you’re coming from (and I don’t mean just me living in R’dam North and you from R’dam South.)

To paraphrase somebody (which is just a posh way of saying “I kinda remember this, but I’ll put my own spin on it): “I may not agree with what you’re saying, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.”

Tonight I’m going to DJ at Tuinfeest in Elektra, SLD; be sure I’m going to play some hip-hop AND Motorpsycho, whilst remembering this.

    What?

I’m not dissing you in any way at all. Really, I do not intend to treat you with anything but respect.

    I’m just speaking my mind.

@ Crackpot Idea: It was actually John Fante, not Dante, to whom Akane (madsunship) was referring. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Fante

@ Mark: If you crave total originality, do not waste your time, it does not exist. Motorpsycho is a child of the past, but is lloking at the future. What they do with their influences, is create something that has not been heard done like that before. That is not total originality, I know, but it’s the next best thing. I don’t know to what extent they listen to their fans. I do know that they have always said that if you meet them on the street, you do not have to be afraid to walk up to them and talk to them. As a friend of mine always says: “They stink on the toilet too.” About them writing songs about fans or specifically with one fan in mind: I do not think they ever do that. If they started doing that, where’s the end? Everybody will ask for a song written for them. Check out the documentary about the making of ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon (I think it was called ‘Gimme some truth’) and check out the segment in which Lennon talks to a flipped fan.

in reply to: Worst and most overrated album. #12199

For me, it’s all of the pop-albums. “Cake” is the worst, followed by “Cult” and then “Phanerothyme”. “Lobotomizer” I never play, but then again I never play any Beatles-records before “Rubber Soul”.

AADAP a bad album? ‘In the family’ a bad song? If only for the unison-lines of guitar and mellotron, that one deserves to be on my ‘best’-list. Again, a matter of opinion. And I am biased, AADAP was the one I started with.

@ Jellyfish: Thank you for passing on that info! I thought the bag was sold out and the webshop was defunct too. Now guess what’s arriving shortly? :MPD:

Sooo, it is quiet here. Where’s Mark? I miss him.

In his absence, I will try to fill his shoes humourously but respectfully.

HOW TO COMBINE BEING A BOOKISH NERD AND A PSYCHONAUT

    1) Read only books on music and artists, that you know Motorpsycho will like. So go order that “The Ultimate Grateful Dead Session Searcher volume 34a: may 14 to may 28 1968” today! Forget about those books on Bon Jovi and André Hazes, they will only make Motorpsycho sad and you a sad person.

    2) Go work in a bookshop. Once there, let your hair grow until it reaches your (true) middle, then slowly switch to wearing MP-shirts exclusively. Lastly, answer every customer question of “Sir, do you know if you have this book?” with “No, but I DO know what the best band in the world is!” Don’t wait for their reaction, just launch into your sermon.

    3) Whilst reading a book, circle all the letters that also appear in a lyric by Motorpsycho. For extra points, circle the words.

Damn, this talking shite over the internet-business is more difficult than I thought!

in reply to: How to make “Child of the future” digital… #11824

That’s right, mr. C-san! I will be buying it double, in case I wear one out. The first play of either one will be for digitisation. Don’t know if I will be sharing it though, I would feel bad with regards to Motorpsycho and their finances AND it will go against their purpose of releasing it as vinyl-only. But I am sure there will be enough people who do not have these objections and/or are not a big wussy like me, so there will be a download available somewhere very soon.

in reply to: New album! #11717

Thanks Krist, for figuring that out!

Looks like it’s going to be a golden year in the history of our beloved Motorpsycho. Have fun on your endeavours, guys! And remember… we’re there to help you.

    Greets,

    Thomas

Great news! Even though I am not so excited at the prospect of Motorpsycho going jazzier again. Didn’t we have enough of that already? IMHO: I am so glad they are rocking again, please leave it like that!

And… where’s the pre-order for Child of the Future already? I know the record itself is delayed, but does that mean the pre-order is also?

Ah well, just another case of me being impatient I guess.

    Thomas

in reply to: New album! #11709

Yeah, I think so too. I asked Stickman just after the announcement for “Child of the Future” was made. Jeannette said they would announce the pre-order as soon as they had the cover figured out, which she guessed would be in the middle of May. This is why I am getting antsy. But no bother, we have to realise the fact that we psychonauts are one spoiled bunch when it comes to new material of our favourite band.

in reply to: New album! #11707

Where’s the pre-order? I know I should be patient, but it is May 20th already and the release is due out beginning of June.

in reply to: Off Topic #11869

Since this is off-topic, I would like to alert you all to the newly announced concerts for My Bloody Valentine (not to be confused with My Dying Bride or Bullet For My Valentine ;-)). They will be playing some festivals and one single clubdate: in De Effenaar in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Presale started last saturday.
