I actually think I'm going to skip these.

Most of the things are already released. The lone possible exception

being Live at Blitz '93 (if it's the complete gig, 4 tracks were released

      on the Demon Box boxset)

Thanks a lot Bernie for the footage. As usual coming in clutch with

the audio and visual evidence :D

Looked like a unique event in the Swiss (Cheese) Mountain.

@paolinogrande001: I'm wondering the same thing. Especially since a lot

of the Soothe outtakes were released on the Demon Box boxset. But if there's

a lot of extra live material, then it's an easy purchase.

We'll just have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see.

But in all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the boxsets

turn out to be the 5 hour Ringnes concert movie from last year.

EDIT: Mr Stickman himself, Rolf Gustavus said on FB it will be boxsets

of Lobotomizer and Soothe. So I guess that's confirmation good enough.

@clundbe: Hell yeah. That encore with the sublime version of Fugledansen

              was something else :finger:

They also played the Lake On Fire festival on Saturday.

I saw snippets of The Waning, Cosmoctopus, Hell 1-3, Überpilgrim and The Magpie

on Instagram. So at least those songs were played.

                  Pre-order started @ Rune Grammofon.

And additional info has turned up on Rune Gram's homepage:

Considering the tight run of albums since the first part of the “Gullvåg Trilogy” in 2017 – three double and a single album in less than four years – the 16 months wait for Ancient Astronauts must feel like an eternity for the fans. And once again we are amazed at the creative forces and consistently high quality at work here.

Much of the music here somehow continue in the manner of the band’s popular long form “N.O.X.” suite from The All Is One (2019) album, including “Mona Lisa/Azrael” and “Chariot Of The Sun – To Phaeton On The Occasion Of Sunrise (Theme From An Imagined Movie)”, the latter clocking in at 22 minutes, being the band´s longest instrumental track to date. Most of Ancient Astronauts was recorded in Amper Tone studio in Oslo during five days in August with old compadre Deathprod at the helm as producer. All four tracks are basically the band playing live in the studio, with the odd keyboards, bits of guitar and the vocals added afterwards. Some of it is in turns pretty frantic and angular or grandiose and hypnotic and is mined from the same sources as the band’s more explorative music from recent years. Meaning there aren’t many choruses to hang on to here, but plenty of mouthwatering music for fans and progheads alike. The album was mixed by Andrew Scheps.

I'm a bit ambivalent about Steven Wilson. On one hand, I do think he has written

some great songs throughout the years. On the other hand, he way too often plays a

type of prog-rock that doesn't appeal to me: Technically impressive, but not very

                    emotionally resonant.

I love him as a producer, though. The albums he produced for Opeth + the whole remix/

remaster job he did for King Crimson was great.

Great news. This is the stuff they recorded with Deathprod in Oslo August last year.

                          Excited to hear the results!

EDIT: Reine not mentioned in the hashtags in the Instagram post makes me think he is not featured on this album.

Concerts visited : 37 between 1999 – 2022. If we count unofficial concerts, collaborations, solo stuff, then it's somewhere between 50-60 concerts…

Locations : With a few exceptions, all concerts in the Oslo area. I did see a few Tønsberg gigs tho (Total 2013 + the Demon Box gig in 2015). Plus one concert in Trondheim (Begynnelser play in 2017, if it counts  )

Different songs played : 194 unique, 538 total.

Songs played most often : Walking On The Water + The Other Fool + Neverland + Feel (9)

Song anticipated most : TGC and Un Chien. Two of their finest songs, for different reasons. But in general I like to be surprised.

                                  Specials :

My first gig, October 16th 1999, all-ages matinee show @ Rockefeller Oslo. They open with a jammy, playful version of In Memory of Elisabeth Reed. Quite the statement! The rest of the show was a nice mix of new and old, including a preview of The Other Fool released the year after. After this there was no turning back, psychonaut for life…

Other than that, the 3 best gigs I ever attended is probably:

                                  Rockefeller 26-04-2002

                                  Øyafestivalen 14-08-2010 (Timothy's Monster gig)

                                  Blitz 24-11-2022

And may there be more great gigs to comm! :MPD:
