Very nice Alex, sounds like a great venue. Pity it's so far away…

I don't think anyone is complaining about MP or their releases? Just pondering over what Roadworks is and could be… all of which is highly subjective of course. If we would not appreciate MP we would not be here.

@fillmore: in terms of sound quality you are of course right, the official recordings sound way better. But sound quality is only one aspect. I can very well live with less quality if the show manages to draw me in in the way a real live experience does. That is something the Roadworks series does not manage to do, for me at least.

So I must disagree with Bent here as well: many of the unofficial live recordings capture MP shows from various era perfectly well, warts and all (vocals anyone?). That's why I listen to them to begin with. Sure, the sound is not always perfect. But neither is the sound in many venues.

All that said, certainly I would applaud more official live recordings, but I'm inclined to say I would prefer one or two of the best shows in a tour to be released rather than a collection of songs (reason: see above). I love owning physical media, especially if there's a nice booklet (yes I am a CD person…bite me) but downloadable flacs would be great for me as well. Even sounds like relatively low-cost option for the band.

            @CaptainAubrey: good point.

Yeah I wish I would be the one receiving the royalties for "encore break". Surely I would own my own little island in the Pacific by now…

I agree with starmelt99 here. As much as I like the Roadwork albums, most of the time I find myself listening to non-official recordings when I want to hear live material. In fact, according last.fm one of my favorite MP tunes is a song called "Encore break" 8)

Listened to the album a couple of times now and it is starting to grow on me. Despite Mogwai being one of my favorite bands, most of their albums are a mixed bag (for my taste). This one takes has more pop influences, and I think I hear things like Neu! as well. The extra track on the 2nd CD is my absolute favorite so far: Music for a forgotten future. 23 minutes of sheer bliss.

15 years ago… you must be kidding. Sure, it does not exactly seem like yesterday anymore, but 15… a lot happened since then. You just caused a trip down memory lane Alex

Last time I checked I was still me :) Yes there are very worthwhile bands in post-rock, though you have to be sort of "in the mood" for some of them. Fortunately many other forms of rock or music in general have my deep interest so there's always something to listen to.

Like for example …And you will know us by the trail of dead: I listen to that as well but have always found it a mixed bag… some really good songs (It was there that I saw you, Homage, Perfect Teenhood,…), but full albums are hardly ever interesting as a whole. Will definitely give the new one a try though.

In the middle of a post-rock onset here… I've always liked Mogwai, GYBE, … But never really listened to much else in the genre. Until I ran into God Is An Astronaut (thank you last.fm), I like it a lot. This Will Destroy you is impressive as well.

yeah, finally I will get to see Slayer live for the 1st time. Had tickets for the show in Tilburg end of last year, which got postponed until it clashed with my summer holiday and I had to sell the ticket. The other show got canceled like 15 mins before it was supposed to start. Let's hope this edition will be without problems so I can see them before they decide to disband…

"Het Klokgebouw" is a landmark building in Eindhoven, a former Philips industrial building. They recently opened a new venue there for "bigger" concerts (I think capacity is 4000-5000?). I have not heard much about the venue, though I think the opening concert (Underworld) got good reviews.

                          Hi Jonne,

I was considering the same thing, until I remembered I have a ticket for Slayer here in Eindhoven on that very same date. Bit more convenient than flying to Barca (though almost as expensive ;-)

                          Their website is (I think):

                          http://www.salarocksound.com/

But the concert is not yet listed.

                          Rob.

Eagerly awaiting this album… already got my ticket for their Dutch show (in March)

Lighthouse girl, wow… one of my favorites from the really old days. Yes it was played more often, but I think only one recording survived (not a good one), so here's hoping for a recording of this one!

Wow, I’d love to see that concert, so much memories would come to life… Let’s hope for a good recording of this one, an official release would be even cooler.

Anneli Drecker live on TGC is rather special indeed. I don’t think that ever happened before (I remember asking on motortrades about it). To me, TGC is one of the few MP songs of which the album version still beats all live recordings I have, mainly because of her vocals.
