The tour has officially launched! The first show was a "good ol' 2 sets format" with a ~15 minute break between sets. Bent said they did that because it was the start of the tour, so they may or may not continue with that format. I personally think it would be cool if they did that more often, maybe a Grateful Dead inspired format with "normal" songs in set 1 and more jammy/space out stuff in set 2.

Also, no mysterious fourth member, only the core trio.

      Anyway, here's the setlist:

      Set 1

      The Tower

      Cloudwalker

      The Cuckoo

      In Our Tree >

      High Time >

      Starmelt/Lovelight

      August

      In Every Dream Home

      Upstairs/Downstairs

      Feel

      A.S.F.E.

      Hell, part 1-3

      Set 2

      Ship of Fools

      Manmower

      Intrepid Explorer

      Lacuna/Sunrise

      Cornucopia

      Bartok of the Universe

      Heartattack Mac

      Here Be Monsters

No encore, but at this point the gig was 3 hours long (including the break) so I personally was quite satisfied :)

Overall loud and heavy and good and awesome and yeah! The boys seemed to be really energetic and happy and inspired!

      Some personal highlights:

      * I love all the songs from The Tower

      * They jammed out "August" a bit, Snah seemed to be the driving force there! Really cool.

      * Up/Down was beautiful.

      * Manmower was beautiful.

      * Lacuna/Sunrise – 'nuff said….

      * BARTOK, I love that riff!

      * Here Be Monsters, fantastic song, got a bit too loud/noisy in the middle/end. Length was about 20 minutes.

      * Feel was also very sweet! Bent fooled me for a second there, saying something like "now we introduce our new keyboard player — Tomas!" So he played the mellotron part there, and very well!

      Other noteworthy notes:

      * Snah seems to have found a new way to sing at times, which sounded quite different from his usual way/style.

      * I know at least one audience recording exists.

      * Bent was quite talkative between songs.

      * On the backdrop they played some drawn animations of various strange landscapes and a male figure doing stuff. I must admit I didn't like it very much, but there were some cool sequences.

Great gig! After the show the security handed me the setlist, and Vortex Surfer was listed as an encore. Would have been a lovely finish to the show, but was not played. Maybe they played past the curfew?

          Intrepid Explorer

Thanks for the reports – what a long setlist! I guess there was not much space left in the end after such a sequence… what a bomb! And Heartattack is back!

            Pro:

best versions of In Our Tree and High Time ever played,

            really nice work tomas :-)

bartok & mac was a massive combo

            all new songs worked (almost)

            really nice singing!

            no too long jamming parts

            august – snah on fire

            Con:

            asfe – something not working

            august – snah on fire

in every – let's hope flutes will be included in later shows

hbe – liked the original version better, bass line or something

            was gone.

overall a very nice show and happy lads everwhere

@mikke: how could Snah on fire be considered a con? Unless there were actual flames or some kind of swindle involved, that is

              Thanks for the report, guys!

              A couple of questions:

              – How did the new songs work out live?

              – And any new The Tower-merch for sale?

I also like the idea of a 2 set-thingy, but I have to admit

this setlist on paper looks slightly boring. But maybe they

were a bit limited by not having Mr. Mystery 4th Member along

              for this one.

Saturday 23 Sept. can't come quick enough!

                thanks for the report!

looks really nice! seems like they skipped some of the obvious classics for the benefit of some often-overlooked gems! i'd be happy with a set like this one.

still, interesting to see that they didn't touch on the mellow tracks of the new one. hoping for pacific sonata, once they have an additional set of hands to take care of synth/guitar duties.

I think the new songs sounded great, mostly. The concert opened with The Tower, which was good i think, but the sound quality was poor during the first handful of songs, so i don't really know how it was.

The cuckoo was tight and heavy, but the bridge part was kind of off. Snah was the main singer, but Bent is sining on the record? Snah didn't really hit the notes on this one, haha, and there was no piano like on the record.

Dreamhome was great, but im sure it would have been even better with a fourth member on stage.

ASFE felt kind of rushed and several vocal line were skipped.

Ship of Fools and Intrepid Explorer were huge and beautiful! Intrepid was probably my highlight from last night.

                  I loved Bartok. Super heavy.

I was somewhat disappointed that they didnt play any of the softer songs from the Tower, but I kinda get that they would be difficult to perform live as a trio.

Im pretty sure that the new songs would have sounded fuller and smoother with a fourth member, considering that they have to fill all the rolles, just the three of them. I enjoyed them very much non the less!

…awesome show! Completely different to those 2-3 summer shows! Both in music as in vibe.

As Beelen was really spacey this show rocks. More detailed feelings from me now on DIME…

Awesome setlist. But I’m afraid they just threw out everything they rehearsed for the tour to see what works and will cut down the setlist for the other nights. Fingers crossed 🙂. I really liked the acoustic opening they did on the Behind The Sun tour.

Bent told me before the concert that they had thrown 20 old songs at Tomas the last week. So I guess there will be A Song For Everyone.

I really love this format (2 sets).

Looking forward to the 2 shows in Belgium.
