I guess my taste differs somewhat from most people here, or maybe it's just my perception? Anyway, some recent favourites:

Falkenbach, Viking Metal from Germany
Yeah, I know, Metal and Motorpsycho fans don't mix that well, at least in my understanding. But this is different. Very very melodic.
then there is the case of Biffy Clyro, a Scottish band who play a mix of alternative/indie/post-hardcore. Definitely interesting and also very melodic (one of my quality marks for musicians).

Maria Solheim (here with Hank van Helvete of Turbonegro fame)
and there'd be a lot more I could think of…but I gotta go to work now
Neu! is quite nice. Also: "In 2010 (Michael) Rother teamed up with Steve Shelley (of Sonic Youth) and Aaron Mullan (of Tall Furs) for Hallogallo 2010, a live project to present Neu! music and some new pieces." (source: wikipedia). I've read this a while ago, since I saw a new Neu! CD in a store recently.
Great musician. RIP.
indeed. good review.
looks like her, yes
i like the one suffering. looks like me at work.

also, thank you for sharing this recording. i regret not being able to witness this concert, as timothy monster surely is one of my favourite records and judging by the recording, it must’ve been quite the experience.
“Excerpt: 8 Soothing Songs For Rut 8 Soothing Songs For Rut is the second studio album by the Norwegian rock band Motorpsycho , then still tinged in hard rock and alternative metal. It was first released as vinyl-only-mini-album called “Soothe” but later re-released on CD with two additional tracks from the single “3 Songs For Rut”. Both titles were merged into “8 Soothing Songs For Rut”. The music is very raw and hard, but also shows glimpses of Prog , as in the nearly 10-minute long “Lighthouse Girl”. Track listing (CD) Track listing (LP “Soothe”) Side A (45 rpm) Side B (33 rpm) Personnel with: Miscellanea item The vinyl version was pressed as a 100 ex. limited steel box . It is now a very rare collectors item, probably the most sought after. Also it is said that only 70-80 ex. actually were sold because some of them were misprints. But there was also a regular version. item It was the first album to feature Deathprod as a collaborateur, back then he helped designing the sleeve. Later he co-produced every album they made (with the exception of the two “Tussler “-records and Black Hole/Blank Canvas ). item It also was the first album to have the Motorpsycho-“tattoo”-logo on it. It was designed by Theo Jak and Bent Sæther actually has it on his left arm. item Lars Lien, long time-collaborateur and band member in 1994 (and also member of The International Tussler Society ), also showed up here for the firs…”
oh cool that is taken from wikipedia… I wrote this! and in turn, the information was gathered from this site. Tsk.
while this all sounds great of course, why release it in time with the oya-festival? isnt that where they will play this album in its entirety? so technically it wouldve been a great idea to record that concert and include it in this box (maybe also as dvd?), make it severely bigger in the process. but i guess there is always asking for more..
Not that I would be able to see it, but I voted Soothe, Timmy, LTEC. Too bad Tussler was not an option!
For me its mostly the other way around. I loved everything from the ‘pop’ phase but I am dissatisfied with the recent recordings. The concert I attended in 2008 was grand however, but I miss the short-format songs. But then again, BHBC had a truckload of them
I consider COTF also very much a real album. Why shouldnt it be? Do you consider Sgt. Pepper an EP? It’s about the same length as COTF and was also released on vinyl only when it first came out.
I agree with supernaut, I’d like more songs, I’ve missed them on the last records. A mixture of sonic explorations and songs would be nice – and COTF didn’t really do it for me, sadly, even thought it attempted that to some extent.
Also I have to disagree with the general genres attributed to the “eras”, although the overall idea seems about right. It feels like that, although I see it slightly different. Early 1989–1992, High time 1993–1998, ‘Pop’ phase 1999–2002, Limbo & regeneration 2003–2006 and Kenneth/Jam era 2007–now.
First listen: this has potential. I dont think I will rank it above MPs classic albums, but definitely above the last two. Very nice listen indeed I’m now glad that I got the vinyl first.
So, FINALLY I got my LP. I was about to drive to amazons HQ and kill somebody there ;P
Uff. I shall listen to this now.
@supernaut & joeri: I had similar feelings about it when I listened to it using that dutch prelistening website. But I think it has some potential, I’ll give the album its chance to grow on me once I received either CD or LP (amazon apparently has shipped my CD today, so let’s cross fingers I get it by friday).
Since everybody is sharing their status, I might just as well: no CD or LP yet arrived here. I preordered at amazon and both at the same time. They were scheduled to be sent on the 14th, but of course nothing went out, as I read here there was some vinyl-delay. They decided to send both formats seperately. Fine by me, but I’d like at least one of them now. Thats why I hate Friday releases, they never work out the way they should (for me). I always get my stuff only a week later.
And I just checked, they havent even sent the CD yet. Booh.
