I've only ever came across Roy through his connections with Pink Floyd, but "influence in early Jethro Tull acoustic tunes"? I looove those (and Anderson's voice) so I must check him out more… I hardly know his work.
Similarities might be down to the somewhat "generic" rockin', but listening to the VH song, I must say that's probably more than a coincidence. But doesn't make me more of a VH fan that I already am. Which is quite… not.
it's my longest running love affair of all. not sure if that's a good thing. but that's how it is.
I envy everyone who's about to see MP for the first time. Though it wasn't so spectacular for me. Bizarre '95, super small venue, 4 bands on the bill, didn't know who'd play when and when MP did, I wasn't even sure if it was them due to them playing quite a few songs unbeknownst to me, and me standing in the back with no clear view of any bandmember's face, which I wasn't too familiar with to begin with anyway.
But to experience their live prowess nowadays for a first time while expecting a maybe decent or even great show but eventually being blasted to Cygnus X-1 and back, woah! Envy alert!!!
So have fun!

2 words to the haters:
hooo! hooo!
My mind hasn't changed at all. Another fine album with the high points Ship Of Fools, Intrepid Explorer, the last few minutes of The Cuckoo and the 2nd half of the Sonata. I like Bartok better on the album than live, as opposed to The Tower, which I found worked better live. I still can't get into Dream Home and I still like ASFE a lot, especially the sheer neverending stretched out ending, which turns a straight rocker due to keeping it completely straight without any fiddling about into a hypnotic trip.
I almost never change my mind about a MP album. There's a few like the Eggplant and the Fruit which I rarely pick for a spin, but when I do I love them and wonder why I listen to them not as often as to others…
You, sir, are crazy. Elder are freaking amazing. Lore and Reflections of a Floating World have been my drug for a while. And the Lore title track is so motorpsychedelique.
title track is a masterpiece and worth the album purchase by itself.
Thanks for the tip! Bought it immediately. Always up for adventurous, genre defying or breaking or hopping music.
I'd love to listen to it in the Indian Himalayas 8O
I listened to it about ten times. First impression was extremely good. Then I got somewhat lukewarm with it. It's a tour de force, amazing prowess, but for me the moods and vibes are a bit too few. But I'm sure that was the intention of this record: Full throttle and mad out-there playing. Two of my faves, the Unicorn and LLM, were just as intense but provided some breathing space here and there, dynamics and tensions and build ups. Maybe that's what I'm missing a bit… But hey, it's a new record, it goes other places, and the full throttle thing and freaked out playing is the idea here. It's what it is, I tell myself with every MP album. Would be stupid to miss a Starhammer-like song on IALC, right?
