Yeah, that was my plan, too. I've been looking for day tickets for quite a while but couldn't find any. Looks like it's all or nothing, which sucks since it is indeed very expensive, especially considering the rest of the line-up.
Sorry, my fault. I was referring to the shows you attended.
Wow, are you that disappointed by the London gig?
Hehehe… I guess I should have known 'cause I clearly expressed my disappointment that I've missed that show back then. Oh well, I can't remember everything I did in the last one and a half years…
Yeah, Wearing yr smell is also on my wanted-list! Haven't seen it in 25 shows. Sjur577, did your friend start going to concerts in 2006, too? How often have they played that song since then(apart from Oya which I couldn't attend)?
Great effort, BronYAur, thanks for all the work!
Concerning the most wanted songs, I think I can count myself fairly lucky, I've seen a lot of the songs mentioned. And my first concert was in 1999, which means I've missed quite a few shows. I, too, am a little bit surprised about TGC winning since they really play it every now and then. But then, maybe people also voted for it despite having seen it before… which would be fair enough.
Seeing Demon Box up there made me realize that I actually didn't even think of it when voting. Of course, I haven't seen it but maybe I had it in the back of my mind that they don't play it anymore and therefore didn't think of voting for it. The one song I'm longing for is up there, too: Radiance Freq (Radiator Freak, Radiance Frequency? What is its real name btw?). Glad to see I'm not the only one who's missing it. Maybe, one day…
As for the two main categories I'm in line with the majority. The big five albums from the 90s are outstanding and contain their best songs (with a few exceptions from later albums). I'm also surprised that a few songs didn't make it in the top ten, like STG, f.ex. But on the other hand, I have to admit that picking the top ten songs was the most difficult thing to do. Actually, I've done that before with friends, and I think my list back then was different from the one I went for now. And I guess if I did it again today or tomorrow, it would change again, probably not completely but still a good deal.
Again, great job, BronYAur, and very enjoyable to read!
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh, from what I know about the Turkish postman, I'll have to wait for another couple of weeks! Crap. Reading you reactions make the tension unbearable! I'm about to listen to it online although that just won't be the same… Also, I really envy you guys for being able to attend this spring's tour! I'm actually thinking about taking a day off and flying to Germany for just one night…
Wow, I have to say I really like that setlist! Would have loved to see that concert. Many hits, yes, but there's nothing wrong with that for me. I've seen a good twenty something MP shows but I'm still waiting to see Wearing your smell and A shrug. I also would have enjoyed 's numbness and Flick a lot which I've seen maybe once before. So, is this the direction they're going live now? Or will a greatest hits show like this remain the exception?
So, who was actually worse? The dutch crowd who according to the other thread was chatting all the time or the OS people?
I've also realized very chatty audiences at MP shows in the last years (Gebaeude9 in Koeln in 2010 (or 09?), f.ex.) but it hasn't always been like that. During my first MP shows in the late 90s I remember absolutely quiet crowds at MP gigs, even during the quiet parts of songs there was hardly any murmur! I guess it must have changed in the last couple of years…
Concerning the recent shows: the setlists really look great! I'm still a bit sad that I couldn't see any of the shows, especially 'cause I used to live in Hannover and Osnabrueck. I would have loved to see the guys there… My trouble is, I will very likely not be able to watch any shows in the near future since I'm living in Istanbul now. Which is a fantatsitic city all together, no doubt! Yet (western rock) concert-wise it's a deserted place… So, MP, if you consider conquering Asia, start here! People are enthusiastic about music, and I'd make sure to bring along anyone I consider capable of shutting their face for two hours of supreme live music!
Oh yeah, Schlachthof (translates as "slaughter house")! Absolutely agreed, fillmore, it's one of the best venues I've seen them at. My first Schlachthof-MP-experience was the gig in 2000, their fourth one there. It was fantastic! They were touring with LTEC but also, RW I had been released only a year before, so everybody was not only curious about the new stuff but eager to get some of the superb A K9 Suite. And indeed, they played UN CHIEN, even if different than on RW I, plus WALKING ON THE WATER/BLACK TO COMM and a few other gems like TIME TO SKATE! The whole setlist was really great! They closed with VS after Un Chien… Man, what a night! Oh, right… and what a venue!
Cool! Seems like Someone's done a decent job, helps to clarify a few things. I rember some discussions in the lyrics' thread when COTF came out…
Quote:I couldn't really see the point of the show as they did it. (Which isn't to say I expect them to please me, I just thought their choice of songs was odd considering it's been so long since they did a UK show.)I, too, am not quite sure what you mean by "the point of the show"… Why would you have considered a show with "a couple of 4 minute rockers" more suitable for the first UK gig in a long time? Certainly they don't play shows for a certain purpose (other than simply playing a great set), and if they choose to play some short rockers – fine! If they don't then they probably just didn't feel like it – fine, too! I don't think they sit together before a show and think about what songs might – for whatever reasons! I can't think of any logic ones, really – be suitable for what kind of audience. At least i hope so…
Just listening to the Starhammer>Wheel>Starhammer-part again, and indeed, the segue is brilliant! While Snah's still (quietly) improvising Bent's already sneaking into that great wheel-bassline, almost inaudible at first… Wow!
Thanks, Armitage, for this great recording! A nice hompage you have there, too! It's worth some browsing I guess…
As for the gig itself, I have to say what a shame I couldn't make it! Completely agree with Alex, the new songs (the second one even more than the first one) sound really great. And check out jam in the middle of "Loneliness"! Then, from Starhammer on it's just amazing! I'm gonna have to listen to this a couple of times before fully grasping it! Can't wait to see them again…
All of you going to London: have a nice trip and a great concert! I'd be there if I had the money and the time… Living in Istanbul right now (as I wrote elsewhere) I have little hope to see the guys in the near future, although there are some European and even American bands who play gigs here… we'll see.
